Has he been lazy this year? Is he disinterested? Or is he marked out of each game, making it almost impossible to recreate the magic of last season?

He's easily the most skilful player I've seen play for our magnificent club, but has his ineffectiveness this year lead to him being a luxury we can no longer afford?

Discuss. Tin hats on.

Will hate to see him flourish in another team. Especially if it's another English team.

My problem with Mahrez is he always tries to take that one pace too many with the ball and ends up losing it, if only he passed it sooner instead of trying to take on one more player.

Was utterly brilliant last year. Pony this season

Most skillful player we have ever had.

I am willing to let him go for an exorbitant fee only because I believe that Demarai Gray can be even better.

This is now the perfect example of a player who is not good for his club and a club that is not good for the player.

We had two chances to stop that soft goal last night, Mahrez was the first chance but he nonchalantly allowed the player to make the ball and put an uncontested cross in.

He has gotten to the point where his inability to defend with any kind of energy has not been made up for by his outstanding attacking ability.

He was immense last season, but if as people say he's being three man marked (he isn't it's made up) then he isn't able to do what we need him too.

He needs to go to a team that can allow him the freedom his game requires, sadly that isn't us.

Best player I have ever seen on his day, but his day has sadly gone in the Leicester blue.

Agree with every word.

Best player I've ever seen in a Leicester City shirt and I'll always be grateful for what he helped us to achieve. But I feel it'll best for both parties if he moved on in the summer.

You lot don't deserve him. Nobody seemed to have an issue with his tracking back and defensive work last season. And both are much improved this year. One consequence of how much better this side of his game is, is that he's now picking up the ball in deeper positions. When he takes players on from deeper, he's never going to be as effective.

The fact is that his attacking play isn't working as well. This is mainly a confidence issue alongside him being heavily marked all the time now. Whenever we need some magic, everyone looks to him. That's too much pressure and expectation on one player. He's still learning how to play under this level of attention and scrutiny.

I think we've not been innovative enough with our use of him this season. He should be moved inside or onto the left more to enable him to escape the close attention. Shakespeare did it well in the Liverpool and Hull games but, sadly, not since.

I do know that he is far more effective this season than Hazard was last season and that Gray is a pale shadow of the player Mahrez is. I also know that there will be no shortage of sides willing to pay exorbitant sums to acquire him in the summer. And when you're watching him score or create brilliant goals for his new side, will you still say that he's a lazy show pony?

Yes, but if we were watching him do that now, would we be saying it? No. Is he doing that now? No.

I'm not saying he's a lazy show pony, just that he has been less effective this year. I would love it if we could find a way to play that really utilised his strengths. That hasn't happened this season, either because of circumstances or his motivation/confidence. My issue is that I don't think we can afford to have him in our side if we have another season like this one.

I totally agree however that Gray isn't anywhere near Mahrez in terms of ability. Maybe he might get close in a few years. Probably not.

So what do we do? Change his role? Play him off Vardy? On the left? Anywhere he wants? Build the team around him?

Ranieri pretty much built the team around him last season and that was a big part of his genius. He's said many times that he saw his quality and set the side up to maximise it. Simpson, Okazaki, Albrighton and Drinkwater all had refined roles to allow Mahrez the freedom to play in the way that he did. The truth is that, for most of this season, none of those players have done the same jobs which has helped to prevent Mahrez from being so effective.

I think we have to evolve and develop our approach further and this does mean changing a number of the other players roles in the side. Mahrez has to be able to deliver the goods wherever he plays and with whatever support he gets. And given time, I expect that he will.

There are perhaps a couple of players in the world that can just conjure up the creative brilliance on demand that some of our fans expect of Mahrez. It's absurdly unfair, not just unrealistic.

Seems there are only two alternatives in BN's world. You can think Mahrez is the world's greatest or that he's pony.

I think he's a great player who had problems adjusting to the extra attention he got on the pitch early in the season and then didn't try very hard for a long part of the season, he's trying hard now but the team's play seems to have evolved without him. Shakey either has to style the team around Mahrez or play someone better suited to his system of play.

This sums it up for me. I also get the impression that the others players don't trust him as much as they previously did. They don't seem to pass to him as much.

That's a good point. I've seen him open often but the players tend to use the left instead.

This.

Gets closed down immediately by at least two opposition players every time he gets the ball. Opponents can get away with dedicating players to that task because they know Simpson is no threat on the overlap and Drinkwater is little threat in the middle, so Mahrez is forced to either make a long distance Hollywood pass or take on the opposition himself. Neither are good options and it rarely works out well.

No point dropping him because if nothing else he is forcing the opposition into dedicating players to him and that should free up space elsewhere. For us it's about making use of that space. For him I don't know, I think he'd be better off playing in a team full of players who are as good as he is. Hope he doesn't leave, but if he wants to make the most of his talent then he probably should.
