You lot don't deserve him. Nobody seemed to have an issue with his tracking back and defensive work last season. And both are much improved this year. One consequence of how much better this side of his game is, is that he's now picking up the ball in deeper positions. When he takes players on from deeper, he's never going to be as effective.
The fact is that his attacking play isn't working as well. This is mainly a confidence issue alongside him being heavily marked all the time now. Whenever we need some magic, everyone looks to him. That's too much pressure and expectation on one player. He's still learning how to play under this level of attention and scrutiny.
I think we've not been innovative enough with our use of him this season. He should be moved inside or onto the left more to enable him to escape the close attention. Shakespeare did it well in the Liverpool and Hull games but, sadly, not since.
I do know that he is far more effective this season than Hazard was last season and that Gray is a pale shadow of the player Mahrez is. I also know that there will be no shortage of sides willing to pay exorbitant sums to acquire him in the summer. And when you're watching him score or create brilliant goals for his new side, will you still say that he's a lazy show pony?
