To be fair the old ball was doing a fair bit, new ball may be a blessing. Apart form the fact it's taken a wicket already.

Run rate has picked up since the new ball. Losing Prior a big blow but should still get up to a 200+ lead.

Settled in for a nights watching cricket (9 hours ahead here) fell asleep after 5 mins missed the lot.

There have been some bad umpiring decisions, just watched Broad's let off, seems farcial, would you have walked?

Why are players supposed to accept bad decisions that go against them, and not accept bad decisions that go for them?

Even after the Broad not out the umpiring has gone against England so I don't think the Aussies can complain.

A real good effort by the Aussies. This was close, very close. If the Aussies had a good top 6, i believe we would struggle.

Great test match, bring on Lords.

Yeah it was a great match to watch, so tense throughout. I'm pleased the Aussies look stronger than advertised, as it should hopefully make for a better series that way.

If England took a 4 bowler rather than a plank like Finn the match probably wouldn't have been so close.

Unbelievable test match, credit to both sides for really digging when under intense pressure, cricket at its absolute best, terrific entertainment.

Bit harsh. He's likely to be dropped as he's not in any sort of form but he'll turn out to be a top test match bowler IMO.

It doesn't matter if he will be good one day, he's been out of form for quite a while and should never have started this test, he had 2 spells that could have lost the test and he leaves Cook with few options (especially since Cook is not yet an experienced captain and makes quite a few tactical errors). There are plenty of other bowlers in far better form, get one in pronto.

That smashed the absolute granny out of 20twenty

For me bring in Compton in place of Bairstow and move Root back into the middle order to give the batting line up a stronger look. I woul give Finn one more try at Lords and if he struggles look to replace with either Bresnan or Onions.

Not sure what you base that on.
Finn wasnt out of form in test matches before this game.
In his previous 3 tests he took 15 wkts at an average of 22 . In the last calender year he has took 34 wkts at an average of a little over 30. That might be a little higher but some of those games were against the top test nation South Africa, and India who we all know have a very good team. I agree with Durham, and imo he could be our main bowler when Anderson retires. Test venues with their conditions and pitches can vary greatly. Even the reliable match winner Swann, had a far from great game.
In his early days Anderson was often erratic, but would you leave him out now ?

Test match cricket isn't the only cricket around, it's been well documented that Finn is having to change his action because of his problem with coming too close to the stumps and isn't anywhere near there yet, go back and bowl in county cricket, get some form and come back into the team when you are bowling well.

Swann only had 3 test wickets at TB before this match, it isn't a good venue for him even if it is his home ground.

Why would I leave the best quick bowler in the world out of the team when he is in form?

Given England will only realistically consider Bresnan as a replacement I'd be tempted to stick with Finn on Thursday.

What form of cricket as he been out of form in then ? I assume you mean County cricket, because any 1 day and 20/20 require different styles of bowling, which imo would be a tad unfair to judge a test match bowler on.

In is 3 previous tests he got 15wkts at 22 a piece. Any top world class bowler would be happy with those stats. The obvious replacements dont have significantly better bowling figures than Finn. He didnt have his best game, but his previous stats are good enough proof that he deserves better than to be dumped for 1 below average performance.
