Confirmed Transfer Hernandez to Malaga

Leicester City Football Club can confirm that defender Luis Hernández has signed for Spanish La Liga side Málaga in a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old Madrid-born defender made a total of eight appearances for the Foxes since his arrival on a free transfer in the summer. Seven of those were starts, including four as part of Leicester City’s successful UEFA Champions League Group Stage campaign.

Hernández can operate as both a central defender and at right-back, where he primarily featured for the Foxes in his eight appearances, including the Club’s first-ever Champions League match away to Club Brugge.

His trademark long throw in that fixture directly led to Marc Albrighton’s historic opening goal in a 3-0 win – City’s first in the competition.

The defender’s return to his native Spain sees him join a Málaga side who currently sit 14th in a league that Hernández is familiar with, having helped Sporting Gijon secure a final day survival with a 2-0 win over Villarreal last season.

He is a product of the Real Madrid academy system having played for both Real’s C and B sides before his move to Sporting Gijon and should he be registered in time, Hernández could make his Málaga debut away to Osasuna on Friday night.

But we surely now need a centre back AND a right back? We already needed a centre back but that's cover for two positions gone.

Benaloune was on the bench at the weekend but surely he's not suddenly the answer after being ignored for so long.

I'm sure he had some issues last season and in the summer. He didn't play a game due to 'injury' when he went out on loan to Fiorentina, despite us telling them he was fit. They refused to pay him for his time with them.
He then didn't report back to Leicester on time in the summer (no one seemed to know why or where he was) and it seems as though he was omitted from our PL squad for the first half of the season as a punishment.
Maybe his attitude this season has persuaded the manager to give him a chance.

Will certainly give him a chance if he gets a go, but it was more surprise if the club feel he's now the right answer.

But as you say, maybe they've been impressed with his attitude and he just needed time. He's been playing regularly in the U23 games from what I've seen and doesn't seem to have complained (publically at least)

The reporting back late thing hasn't been confirmed by official sources. He has said he was in Italy recovering from a back injury, but unofficial sources have said he was expected back in training at the same time as the rest of the (non international) squad. Maybe he did have permission to return to training late - but it seems odd that he was then not given a place in the Premier League squad when there were plenty of places available.
