Another nail in the coffin of this England team. What do you do when you're on the wobble and key players are retiring/dropping out? England's answer: ditch the team's stand out player who remains desperate to play for them. Could you imagine West Indies doing this to Viv Richards or India to Tendulkar?

You couldn't make it up. The incompetence is beyond belief. They deserve to play in front of empty stands this summer.

Considering his divisive effect on the entire known universe I'm glad to see the back of the arrogant,selfish Saffa bellend to be honest.Best years were done anyway & he's been less than stellar for the last 2 years.**** him & move on.Time to rebuild from the ground up.

The biggest problem is that the ECB seems to be building all of it's plans around Cook, I'm not convinced he is a decent tactician or leader, binning off players because Cooky hasn't got the spuds to lead them isn't great.

Horrible decision. How can you get rid of your most talented player? He's 33, not past it at all, I just don't get it.

Cook as mentioned is tactically dreadful, he needs to lose the captaincy and fast.

Cook just isn't a captain in any sense.However he went to the right schools & knows the right people.English Cricket is run along the same lines as the Conservative Party (apart from being a lot more liberal on immigration) but with Pietersen the problem is that half the dressing room probably wants to deck him on sight.No matter the talent level you can't have that in a team game.He's a victim of his own ego & will eventually come to realise it.After retirement probably.He's had a fair few let offs down the years but thay can't go on forever.Better to bring youth through now & try to move on from the winter disaster show rather than cling on to what Pietersen could bring for the next (at most) 2 years.

Gooch, Stewart and others have scored over 5000 runs in international cricket after the age of 33, why wouldn't KP be capable of this if not binned off?

Not disputing its possible but neither Gooch nor Stewart had the same issues that KP brings.All in all you have to make a team decision.

By team I guess you are talking about Cook and the ECB, the snippets coming out see to indicate that Prior, Swann and other senior players weren't fully on board with Cook. I think that Swann may have gone early because of some of these issues. It should all come out after October when the gags come off.

It is ludicrous to drop the best player, even if KP didn't play well on this tour there are many who were worse.
