And although I don't know any figures, I would imagine the club have invested quite a lot of time and money in scouting those potential new signings, why should SW be allowed to leave with that information and take it to his new employer in time for them to act upon it?

I'm sure this is something the club will think about and they may have a legal agreement in place that says Everton can't sign certain players that Walsh had been involved in scouting.

There could be many reasons Walsh could want to go to Everton, it might not be about money at all. He's from the area and has family there. The Everton job will be a promotion and is likely to involve a broader area of responsibility than he has at Leicester.
Maybe he doesn't want to spend as much time travelling around the world looking at players, and a desk job that oversees not just scouting but the whole football side of the club is a challenge that appeals to him.

Whilst any players Walsh could recommend might be useful, I doubt Everton would spend millions on his say alone. Just like at Leicester they would want detailed reports, perhaps references, and then a discussion between whatever signing committee exists.

Walsh is more valuable for his experience and the knowledge of the processes he has employed successfully. Especially as i doubt he will be as personally involved in scouting as a DOF. He will be introducing a system and training, as well as taking on new responsibilities.

He will be greatly missed, but this isn't just a move for him it's a promotion, and probably a more secure job, as DOFs don't tend to leave with managers like assistants are prone to.

I am sure I read somewhere that up until recently Walsh DID do a lot of travel following up from initial scouting reports.

In some businesses where inside knowledge is commercially sensitive, there are often contracts which forbid going to a similar business for 12 months after leaving.

I am sure in this case it is probably a combination of not wanting to put in all the air miles, be closer to family and take it a bit easier in a promoted job.

I expect we will 'share' the scouts around Europe as I suspect Everton will be looking for a different type of player to us.

Anyone remember the days when director of football roles were for your current shit manager who you couldn't afford to sack on the spot? Them were the days.

Peter Taylor/Craig Levein/Martin Allen/Sven Goran Ericsson - Director of Football, has nice ring to it.

Lets not get carried away here. Walsh was responsible for bringing some good/great players to the Club in the last couple of years, top of the list are of course, Vardy, Mahrez, Kante. however before these who else? Knockert, probably, Fuchs and Simpson I doubt. Fuchs was a free agent and we were desperate for a left back. Simpson wasn't first choice right back until Ranieri's tenure. So who else currently at the club has gone from nothing to something special in the space of a season that can be directly linked to Walsh? I can't think of anyone, Musa might, he's still an unknown as is Amartey, and Mendy . Notice something? Two of the big three are French as are Amartey and Mendy. Maybe Walshies little black book is not so full after all. He has to come up with players that will fit into Everton's system and I doubt any system they adopt will be based on rapid counter attacking football. He's a loss to the club, yes, but maybe not so big a loss as people are making out.

Think that's a pretty bizzare post. With the exception of Kasper and King, every major player last season was signed during Steve Walsh's tenure with the club.

AND WE JUST WON THE LEAGUE!!!!

He has. He was born in Ghana, raised in Ghana, and played football in Sweden and Denmark.

He may have had a holiday in France.

Everywhere south of Northampton is France to me.

He also has a problem with snails on his vegetable patch.

No, I said 'which players went from nothing to something special in a season'. Remove Vardy , Mahrez, and Kante from the list and there isn't anyone else. I am not saying that other players didn't play well of course they did, Drinkwater certainly deserved more credit as did the whole defensive unit but only those three rose to 'super star' status. Everyone else in the squad were/are hardened professionals, but these three were major gambles, none of them may have made it, by his own admission Vardy really struggled early on, both Mahrez and Kante came from the second tier of French football and may not have survived in the Premiership. It's to their and the Clubs credit they all went on to have such an impact in the hardest league in the world. Walsh undoubtedly had a major influence on recruitment of players, over a number of years, however City's blueprint will be different to Everton's so any player he has identified as a potential City target will not necessarily fit into their plans hence my view that he may not be such a huge loss as is being suggested.

No they didn't. Kante had been playing in the top division when we signed him,

Don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

Has he gone yet? Lots saying it was going to be confirmed by now so wonder what's holding it up?

Still keeping my fingers crossed but not much hope

In my view, this will be the moment that we look back on a few years down the line and say "that was when it began to go wrong".

We will sustain our positive trajectory for a while longer of course. Maybe two or three years. Ranieri is great and we still have a very strong squad and backroom staff.

But Walsh fueled our improvement. He's the one that set us apart and the loss of him is devastating.

Our best chance of maintaining our strategy would be to go and get Rob McKenzie back from Spurs on a major promotion. If we underestimate the importance of Walsh and his role, we are fools. We must also insert all sorts of clauses into his departure agreement preventing him from using our scouting network or going after players we're targeting.

Its all quite boring tbh
