Ranieri's Replacement?

I'm not sure that giving someone the job after 2 games is a sensible decision.

Don't get me wrong I have been pleased with the performances and results in those 2 games, and I am not opposed to him getting the job, but he is inexperienced as a manager, and we are still too close to the relegation zone for comfort. Personally I would give him a few more games but I would still be accepting applications, just in case.

If he were being made long term manager, I would agree but, after another couple of games, were the board to start looking for another manager, we'd be too near to the end of the season for him to come in, assess the squad and get them doing anything different. I think that it's better to give the team some stability - and hope for the best.

If we wanted stability CR could have stayed. We need wins. Keep him temporary for as long as they last.

Really can't see him being the man for the real job next season, it's going to take a strong manager, more detached from the players to make the big cuts we need.

It'll be a different club next season.

Sensible plan.

If he does well then those big changes it looked like we needed under Ranieri will seem a lot less urgent. A centre back or two, for sure, but a team that can tear apart the likes of Liverpool as we did last week doesn't need major changes.

If on the other hand we do badly then he won't get the job permanently anyway and we'll have a more experienced manager in overseeing the changes required in the summer.

TBH we need to change most of our defence and attack over the off-season and I don't think that Shakey will be able to do that. If he gets the job permanently I'd expect 2 personnel changes at most. That worries me. If an experienced Coach with a good resumé (who wants the job) is available at the end of the season, I'd snap them up. The O'neill who is interested is not a coach with that criteria.
Why wholesale changes?

I nearly posted something similar a few hours ago Moose. I feel thoughts of a 'clear out' ought be on hold now. Let's see how we perform until the end of the season, and more importantly which league we're in next season, before considering changes. Natural and expected squad turn could well be enough.

Tbh, at the moment, I'm thinking only of the lot we've already got.

Damn, 2 wins and the world has changed.

Morgan, Huth and Fuchs will be a year older and a year slower next season. Morgan and Fuchs have glaring defensive weaknesses at this moment. If they are in the team next season we're favourites for relegation. Both of them should have been eased out this season.

Simpson whilst better has holes and we have no specialist back-up for the position.

I seriously hope all four are at best reserves for us next season and a emotion fuelled home win over a weakened and flawed Liverpool team followed by a home win over a relegation bound bottom fodder team doesn't change anything at all.

In attack we need to upgrade and that was obvious to Leicester in the summer when they splurged on 2 strikers to move us up to challengers and not relegation fighters. Vardy is a one trick pony who isn't so young that we can rely on his speed (let alone his effort) and Okazaki/Ulloa are cellar dweller strikers, the first isn't going to score many goals and the second is limited. Hopefully we hold onto Slimani and he becomes the big we need and Vardy can work out for another season but I would still prefer upgrades on Ulloa and Okazaki - unless Musa can be that!

There are too many (more than 3) shit teams in the prem so we don't need to be great to avoid relegation. A team doesn't need to be great to be 8th in the prem let alone 17th. Our players have seriously underperformed this season. Our first team is old and not getting any younger. Shakespeare is good enough to keep us up (Claudio was too and probably Hodgson is for that matter) but he's not experienced enough and too chummy with the players to lead us to respecatbility in the Prem. He's a coach not a head coach. That's not a knock and not a bad thing. Teams need more good coaches than head coaches - obviously - Successful prem teams need good, experienced managers. If Shakey wants to be a manager he should get a job in the lower leagues, prove his worth, earn his colours and then move into the prem if he's successful.

Taking on a novice as your permanent manager would be a disaster.

Seems to be working out for Swansea.

Early days but wasn't he the assistant manager at PSG, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich? seems a world away from Hull and Leicester.

"doesn't change anything at all"

That gave me a smile. I'd say league position looks better for starters! Not to mention spirit, confidence...
