Ranieri's Replacement?

I expect Schmichael, Drinkwater, Mahrez, and Vardy will be going given a chance. Ranieri asked the players to stay one more year, and I wouldn't be surprised if release clauses were added to their improved contracts.

Add to that the players we might want to replace anyway such as Morgan, Huth, Fuchs, Ulloa, and Musa, also the fact that Chilwell and Gray are attracting interest and a massive rebuilding job in the summer could well be needed.

Has somebody upset you this morning, Feriol?

Mahrez might want to go but he may not generate the interest he hopes for after his lacklustre season. I bet his release clause is very steep too.

Musa and Mendy may well want out with few tears shed from either side.

I'd be surprised if anyone else wanted out. Obviously lots will depend upon who our manager is but I would expect a summer of 3-4 in and 3-4 out if we stay up.

Damn, 2 wins and the world has changed.

Morgan, Huth and Fuchs will be a year older and a year slower next season. Morgan and Fuchs have glaring defensive weaknesses at this moment. If they are in the team next season we're favourites for relegation. Both of them should have been eased out this season.

Simpson whilst better has holes and we have no specialist back-up for the position.

I seriously hope all four are at best reserves for us next season and a emotion fuelled home win over a weakened and flawed Liverpool team followed by a home win over a relegation bound bottom fodder team doesn't change anything at all.

In attack we need to upgrade and that was obvious to Leicester in the summer when they splurged on 2 strikers to move us up to challengers and not relegation fighters. Vardy is a one trick pony who isn't so young that we can rely on his speed (let alone his effort) and Okazaki/Ulloa are cellar dweller strikers, the first isn't going to score many goals and the second is limited. Hopefully we hold onto Slimani and he becomes the big we need and Vardy can work out for another season but I would still prefer upgrades on Ulloa and Okazaki - unless Musa can be that!

There are too many (more than 3) shit teams in the prem so we don't need to be great to avoid relegation. A team doesn't need to be great to be 8th in the prem let alone 17th. Our players have seriously underperformed this season. Our first team is old and not getting any younger. Shakespeare is good enough to keep us up (Claudio was too and probably Hodgson is for that matter) but he's not experienced enough and too chummy with the players to lead us to respecatbility in the Prem. He's a coach not a head coach. That's not a knock and not a bad thing. Teams need more good coaches than head coaches - obviously - Successful prem teams need good, experienced managers. If Shakey wants to be a manager he should get a job in the lower leagues, prove his worth, earn his colours and then move into the prem if he's successful.

Taking on a novice as your permanent manager would be a disaster.

If you're judging what we need on Ranieri's last few weeks then we need a whole new squad.

If Shakespeare's team delivers good form over the remainder of the season then it'll be clear that it was in one way or another Ranieri's management rather than an inherent weakness of the squad that was to blame for poor performances, and therefore a squad overhaul won't be as urgent.

I think you do understand that point, but your feelings about Ranieri being sacked have now become an agenda which you push with every post.

I'm past the CR sacking. it was poorly done and dishonourable but it's happened and as with every other manager and player I now want whats best for us going forward.

I'm certainly not basing it on CR's last few weeks. Check through the game threads it's been a long time the players have been poor. How anyone could want half of our back 4 next season is beyond me.

If we do a proper preseason fitness wise, you could easily see an improvement in the older players next season.

In my view, none of them are past it, they're just poorly prepared for the rigors of the season.

I think big Wes might be knackered.

At best he needs a very restful summer. The amount of football he has played the last 3 years is bananas.

Chilwell will likely replace Fuchs. Simpson is still largely competent. Huth looks a lot better when he's not being asked to be a ball playing centre back. Ditto Morgan really. Amartey might replace one of them. I would definitely expect at least one new centre back being signed regardless.
