Last game should be about giving tournament time to those players who will spearhead the European championship campaign

Frank Lampard is strongly rumoured to be captaining the side - a man who will almost certainly retire from international football as soon as he gets home.

If there is anything that sums up why this man should no longer be in charge, it is this

Ture, I've been in support of RH but the Lampard thing has got my goat.

Having spent 90 minutes watching Capello's Russia, it could be a lot worse.

England have done what they have repeated in every World Cup since 1990, lost to the first decent team we've played.

Yep. I've backed Hodgson too but I'm annoyed with what he's said about tomorrow's game.

I'm fine with bringing Lampard on as a sub in what is likely to be his final England game if there is a chance, but he shouldn't be starting. I'm really annoyed that he isn't taking the game seriously and treating it like a friendly. It's the World Cup! And we're facing the prospect of finishing with 0 points.

He's right to change the team from the last 2 games but, I agree with Homer, it should be the players who we're looking at for Euro 2016.

I think our starting line up for tomorrow should be:

Hart
Johnson, Jones, Cahill, Shaw
Henderson, Wilshere
Sterling, Barkley, Lallana
Sturridge

I'm not sure about replacing RH, as I'm not sure The FA are capable of getting a better manager to replace him. Not that they aren't out there, I just don't believe they have the ability to get the right man.

However, I agree totally with these points homer. Unbelievable.

Absolute clown, that's sealed the deal for me.

Get rid of the old fool.

I'd much rather have someone *like* Klinsmann, than RH who is clearly taking us absolutely nowhere.

Klinsmann is the one I've said I'd want as well. I can't see a German becoming England manager anytime soon, but we need someone to do what he's done at international level.

I don't necessarily think we should get rid of Roy... We're not ready to win anything anyway, and he's done a good job of bringing young players in and playing with more attacking intent. BUT... it would be good to get some results along the way! And a lot of what he's done is questionable, particularly his comments about tomorrow's game.

I wouldn't be gutted if Hodgson went, but I won't be shouting for him to get the boot either.

On a serious note... I think Glenn Hoddle needs to be involved somewhere in the England set up.

He has and he hasn't. Clearly the squad is more youthful, but there weren't really any alternatives for him to pick anyway. In midfield and up front, the only real surprise was maybe Carrick. Otherwise there weren't any other options.

And in defence, I fear that had he actually got Terry back involved, and even Ashley Cole (who hasn't played that much but would have struggled to offer less than Baines), we wouldn't be out of the WC already.

On a serious note... I think Glenn Hoddle needs to be involved somewhere in the England set up.

Paralympic team manager?

I find it odd that fans of a club who succeeded in allowing a manager to learn from his mistakes want Hodgson out given there were at least encouraging signs.

Encouraging signs?

There was a rumour of encouragement and nothing more Imo. The fact he wants to keep Gerrarrd involved after the World Cup tells me all I need to know.

Oh and bringing Lambert on in the 89th minute the other night was just bizarre.

Nope, didn't fancy his appointment before and certainly not sure now.

Completely agree. Hodgson is quite clearly the strongest English coach, and has also demonstrated considerable improvement in terms of performaces from Euro 2012.

I'd also go as far as to say that while we've not deserved to qualify, neither could Italy have complained if we'd ended up with three points from them and the Uruguay match could have been very different if the ref had clamped down on their needlessly physical approach.

The attacking side of the Italy performance was the most encouraging since 1996. Our record against top level international teams in competitive competitions is miserable.
Hes not going to be vocal in ending a players international career. He will do it like he has done with Terry.
Lambert was nothing more than a direct gamble which every team does in that situation.

I would have thought that our experience with Pearson would have learnt Leicester fans that even managers learn from mistakes and gutting circumstances to become stronger. Experience only comes if you are subjected to it and international tournaments don't come too often. I suspect if Hodgson keeps on he knows he's gotta sort out a better back four for two years time and we've got sort out the deep midfield two. If you bring in a new man, he's likely to scrap anything we've learnt in order to get immediate success and get the fans/press on his side.

Klinsmann has been used as an example elsewhere as a good international manager. With Germany he had the bonus of being the host country and having two years of friendlies to work out how to get his team sorted. They were calls for him to quit early on his USA career as they needed a win in their last game of the first phase qualifying to get through. It's came good finally but he's used something like 50 players in the process. International football is a long game and as along as there are signs of progression, you might as well keep with it. You could see a progression from 2012 to now and that's fine by me.

Using the Pearson comparison becomes a bit bollocks when you then consider the number of managers who have been given too long to get things right.

9 changes for tomorrow confirmed already.

Just Cahill and Sturridge keep their places.

RH has spent 38 years as a manager including taking another international team to a world cup 20 years ago. What the feck else is he going to learn? He's now had two tournaments with England and both have been failures.

He's also claimed that it will take 6 years to get the best out of the current group of young players. When he'll be 72-73 years old. Seriously? The only thing he's going to be learning over the next few years is how to operate a mobility scooter.

Lampard, Smalling, Milner, Jones - England's finest do battle tonight

Surprised he's said six years. Feckin' sixty, more like

It's a lazy and incoherent argument that is trotted out far too often. If a manager gets better, somehow this means that all managers will improve if left alone. We can trade names that prove or disprove that all day long. The reality is that success depends on many, many more factors than time spent in post.

For the first time in my lifetime, I'm going to choose not to bother watching an England world cup game today. I'm going to treat them with the same respect they give to me by picking the reserves.

Shameful decision.
