I notice that BB code has been turned off for my signature, yet it seems others have the option to include a link, any reason for this?

BBcode has been turned off for sigs for 'normal' members because some people were abusing it and I'm trying to find out how to make only specific codes available in sigs, when I've done that links will work again.
As this is set on a user group basis people who aren't in the normal user group (mainly moderators) haven't been affected.

Thanks for the update.

The following modification may help: Advanced BBcode permissions. You could create new user groups for members with less than 10 posts for example and disable BBcode.
