Reasons why we are going to continue to lag behind in ODIs numbers 107 and 108:

107 - the Friends Provident trophy (old C&G), whilst based on 50 overs, is not replicating the ODI powerplay rules and has the old 15 overs of field restrictions in place.

108 - the other main one-day tournament in the county game is still 45 overs

How on earth are our players supposed to prepare for ODIs under this farcical situation :icon_roll

The domestic schedule needs a major overhaul. The counties have got greedy in recent years and want a lot more one day games and a lot more 20/20 to make money.

The county championship schedule seems ok (if not a bit long) but the one day system is stupid. Effectively the season is divided into three;
mid April > mid June - 9 x 50/50 games (potential final)
mid June > mid July - 8 x 20/20 games (potential QF, SF and Final too)
mid July > mid Sept- 8 x 40/40 games

I mean what is the ****ing point of 40 over games? Really? Its made even worse by the fact that its a league. An 8 game league is a joke.

I don't know what you think of this but I would axe the pro 40 league first up. Then expand the 50/50 and the 20/20, and also make the 20/20 later in the season.
50/50 - Mid April > mid July
3 Groups of 7. Each team plays each other twice. The two best teams from each league and the two best third places teams go to the quarters > semis > final. = 12 games min > 15 games max.
20/20 - Mid July > End of August (games more scattered out instead of in three week period)
Same as it is now but 10 group games instead of 8. Quarters, semis, finals. It would make a great season finale.
