I don’t have an Athletic subscription but here are a few faves off the top of my head;

Bosman, wantaway, exit door, saga, come and get me plea, shock, pull the plug, rift, land, cough up, launch, match their valuation, lining up, with x going the other way, plot, flog, starlet, eyeing, emotional farewell, join the race.

Several of these are mentioned, as well as ace, radar, hijacked, coup, and war chest.

The letter S is especially well represented:
Where the real transfer-window action can be found. Take a deep breath, as club supremos spend “silly money” in “silly season” in an attempt to bring a transfer saga to an end just before the window slams shut, only for their swoop to hit a snag or a stumbling block before the dreaded snub from a player for whom there would be no shortage of suitors if he decides to make a switch.
