ipods and mp3 players

I'm waiting on my ipod to come but i mite send it back because the main reason for getting one is that i need to store photos on something while I'm on holiday yes Ive got shit loads of memory cards but we take that Many pic's i need something to keep them on and don't want to take the laptop with us ,can the ipod store photos from dig cam via a usb lead or would i be better off getting something els ,help I'm stuck on this one
