After multiple points deductions, a player strike, and ultimately relegation last season, Macclesfield Town were up in the High Court today with over half a million in debts, including, somehow, £173,000 owed to former manager John Askey.

Yep, a right shit show, when you see what’s happened to them. The last time I saw them play was in 2013 in the (now called) National League, against Hyde. They were a big fish in non-league football and it’s pretty sad that this sort of thing can happen.

They've never had the finances to truly prosper at league level but were allowed to continue a year ago, and Bury were allowed to be promoted, while Notts County were relegated out of the league. The league should get much tighter on finances, but they never will
