It’s not really a shock that people are disinterested, as, aside from the fact that England are largely dull to watch, the qualification phase is absolutely shite these days. Peter Taylor could get England to qualify, it’s that straightforward.
Steady on sir.

A devil's advocate question, one intended to provoke thought rather than argument: how much attention is one supposed to pay?

For instance, I wouldn't profess for a moment to be following everything that goes on everywhere. I know for instance there's some heavy shit going down in Myanmar - and could give you a sketchy outline based on my historical knowledge - but wouldn't for a moment claim to be 'au fait'.

We're blessed (and maybe cursed) in this age of information technology to have news reports on tap but I can appreciate and understand that people have got to get the kids to school etc. Once upon a time, we knew **** all about what was happening beyond the end of the street.

I'm not defending ignorance by any stretch, simply asking how much time people are expected to invest in becoming sufficiently aware, and indeed how much - and of what - is sufficient.
That's a good question. I'm not sure that it's right to put an expectation on people to behave in a particular way, so the onus should be on those of us who want to create change to be the awareness raisers. I was brought up, in the campaign sense, with the phrase ‘If you believe in something, write it on a piece of paper and stick it through a letterbox’. That's about finding the issue and going out and telling people, and I think something like these shirts is in the same tradition. It'll be dismissed as a stunt by some, but that's precisely what it is and precisely why it's good - it's highjacked a lot of eyeballs that wouldn't otherwise have tuned in

This is all a bit sniffy.

I'd be very surprised if any World Cup, EUROs, Olympics, etc. was awarded cleanly. They're all wrapped up in dodgy deals, government favours, missionary style growth ambitions, and so on.

Qatar is no different to any of the other regimes if you choose what to be upset by. Russia anyone? USA? UK even? They're all fecking crooked and appalling in their own ways.

What I find unpalatable is people compaining about other countries when there is plenty wrong in their own.

Mind you, I have had my vaccine today so it could be that my thoughts are now being controlled by a specky computer twat.

The thing about FIFA is that they are quite good at brushing all the corruption under the rug. Look how they've handed out these bans to former officials but haven't said much at all about moving the world cup somewhere else. They'll allow these protests by players because it would be a bad look to crack down on them but none of the players will refuse to play in the world cup next year and that will be that. As BN said every country that has hosted a world cup has been guilty of all sorts though so it's possibly hypocritical to only care about Qatar.

Not sure it's the bribery and such like that's the main problem with Qatar. Granted looking at how the Bristol protests/riots are being portrayed in our own media and by politicians on both sides of the same arse...... we're not particularly superb ourselves.

Our last world cup bid was absolute shite. So at least we could argue it's not bitterness because of that? What was it.....****in Brizzle and Milton Keynes as host venues?

Ndidi and Iheanacho both started for Nigeria vs Benin. Iheanacho was subbed after 70 mins. His replacement scored the only goal of the game.

When Ward Prowse is playing and scoring in an international you know it's not a great standard. Well done to anyone who bothered.
Well that’s just guaranteed Ward Prowse will score against us in the league or cup game (or both!)

I don't think he's THAT shit. Got to be a particular level of shite to be guaranteed that charitable goal.
