In-form forward Joe Dodoo scored a superb hat-trick as City's Under-18s continued their 100 per cent start to the Premier Academy League season at Norwich City.

Dodoo took his season's tally to five goals in three games with a treble in a seesaw battle at the Canaries' Colney training ground, adding to the double the first-year scholar hit in the opening-day win at Bolton Wanderers.

Norwich had edged in front through Jacob Murphy on the quarter-hour, but Dodoo quickly levelled the scores two minutes later with a fine strike from the edge of the box.

The talented 16-year-old clearly had the bit between his teeth and put the visitors in front just before half-time. Joey Jones, recalled from international duty with Northern Ireland Under-19s, delivered a cross that was headed back by Tom Hopper and Dodoo crashed in a tremendous volley from just inside the box.

Murphy's second of the afternoon put Norwich back on level terms shortly after the interval and the hosts had the chance to retake the lead soon after, but a missed penalty cost them dearly.

Dodoo showed them the way when he completed his hat-trick from the spot on 71 minutes to re-establish a lead the Foxes never relinquished.

City's youngsters had to hold onto their advantage with 10 men in the closing stages, following the dismissal of Louis Tambini shortly after Dodoo's third, but they kept the Canaries at bay to make it three wins from three so far this term.

Academy Director Jon Rudkin said: "It was a good result from a difficult game, especially as Norwich made such a bright start. But it was very pleasing to see how well the boys responded to going behind.

"We grew in confidence after the equaliser and looked in control up to half-time, but conceded a poor goal from our perspective and could have gone behind again had they not missed their penalty.

"We scored ours, but had to show a lot of resilience after Louis received his second yellow card and that closing stage was an education in its own right.

"Credit to the players for sticking at it and seeing the game out. There's plenty for them to learn from the game, but also a lot to be proud about."

The OS still can't spell Joseph Dadoo's name, that's about 3 times they've got it wrong with 3 different spellings. I hear he's a really exciting prospect anyway.

I didnt think we would ever get someone with a better name than Schlupp, but Dadoo is up there

He could be the next Tommy Wright/Louis Dodds/Chris O'Grady/Billy Kee!

It was a tale of two penalties for the Canaries at Colney on Saturday.

Moments after City midfielder Dean Florence missed his spot kick Foxes striker Joe Dodoo converted at the other end to complete his hat-trick and secure the visitors all three points.

Ricky Martin had to reshuffle the pack ahead of the game with injuries to Jamar Loza and Taylor McKenzie. The two Harrys, Barker and Toffolo, were switched from their normal full-back roles into central defence, allowing schoolboys Cameron Norman and Ben Wyatt to make their first start at this level.

City made a promising start, but it was Leicester who almost opened the scoring on eight minutes with a sweetly-taken free-kick from Oliver Norburn, but Remi Matthews made a superb fingertip save.

Sam Kelly tried his luck from distance, but his effort was wide of the target, but moments later Norwich should have opened their account when Jacob Murphy raced on to a through ball but Adam Smith in the Foxes goal made a point blank save.

The pace of Murphy was causing the visitors all sorts of problems and on 15 minutes he raced on to a delighful ball from Kelly and this time gave Smith no chance and slotted the ball home.

Their lead lasted all of two minutes before Leicester drew level when Dodoo beat Matthews with a low shot from the edge of the area after the Canaries failed to clear their lines.

Murphy almost restored the Canaries’ advantage, but his shot was just wide of the target after some good build-up play from Cameron McGeeham.

With just three minutes left of the half Leicester ensured that they would go into the break a goal up when a free-kick was headed back across the goal allowing Dodoo to volley the ball home.

It took Norwich just two minutes after the break to pull level when Murphy again left the Foxes defence for dead to score his second.

Smith had to be alert to pull off a save from the lively McGeeham, but from the resulting corner referee Goldsmith awarded Norwich a penalty for holding. Florence stepped up, but he sent his effort high over the bar.

It proved to be a costly miss as on 71 minutes the ref awarded Leicester a spot kick and Dodoo made no mistake, sending Leicester back in front.

From the kick off the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Louis Tambini was given a second yellow for a foul on Michael Clunan.

With a man advantage Norwich went all out for the equaliser, but to their credit Leicester never gave the Canaries an inch and while they will be disappointed not to take something from the game they certainly played their part.
