Couldn't agree more Steven, a very sad day for golf, but also for sport too. I remember seeing him play in the Ryder Cup back in the 80s and he had a real aura about him, even amongst all the other great players of the day. RIP Seve, you were a real star

Legend is an oft used word but Seve was a true sporting legend. I agree, Pork Pie, those 80s Ryder Cups and the revival of European Golf were in large part down to him. A very sad start to this day and my thoughts are with him and his family. RIP.

I was fortunate enough to see him play live in the Ryder Cup back then, he really was the one that stood out and took it to the Americans.

I always think of Seve as being European Golf's Arnold Palmer. He was the one the captured the public imagination and showed a generation of other European golfers that it was possible to be European and capable of winning Major tournaments in the US and other tournaments around the world.

As Rafa Nadal said a reference point for Spanish sport and indeed a reference point for European sport.
