VirginMedia have really ****ed up Usenet before midnight by capping the bandwidth. Even if I try alternative newsservers to Virgins the download speeds are still crap.

Anyone know of a way around this?

And no, before you ask, it's not just the binary groups I'm after!

Torrents are usually slower than a decent usenet server.


Maybe Virgin are throttling the port (119) used for usenet, so it might be worth trying a different port if possible.

I wouldn't have thought so.

I use Giganews. It's fast, they have two years of binary retention and you can use port 80.
