Leicester City are delighted to announce the signing of defender Harry Maguire from Hull City for an undisclosed fee.

Maguire, 24, joins the Foxes on a five-year deal and will link up with his new team-mates in early July ahead of their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Speaking exclusively to LCFC TV, he said: “It’s obviously a very exciting time for myself. Once I had my eyes on this club, I always wanted to join. Thankfully I’m here so I can’t wait to get the season started and kick on.

“There were a number of clubs interested, but when I met the manager here, he pretty much swayed it into the direction of this club. He showed me the way that the Club is going. It’s on the up and it looks very promising for the future, so credit to the gaffer.

“You can see that with the structure of the Club, it’s going to look upwards rather than down so that was a big reason why, as soon as I knew there was an interest, I wanted to jump at the opportunity.”

The Sheffield-born centre back made his professional debut for Sheffield United in April 2011 and went on to make over 100 appearances for the Blades across three seasons.

Maguire then made the permanent switch to Hull City in July 2014 and played six times for the Tigers before joining Wigan Athletic on loan in February 2015.

With Championship experience under his belt, Maguire was heavily involved for Hull during the 2015/16 season, featuring 33 times in all competitions to help his side gain promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

The 2016/17 campaign also proved to be productive for the former England Under-21 defender, who made a total of 36 appearances, earning Hull’s fans’ and players’ player of the season titles in the process.

The centre back will provide strong defensive competition in the City set-up, as Craig Shakespeare’s men prepare for a fourth-straight campaign in England’s top flight.

Great.

Another CB, an RB and a striker please.

Nice bit of business to start the summer with

He's looked pretty good so far on the times I've seen him play - be fascinating to see how he gets on

Are you happy with the CM options at our disposal then?

Yes.

You don't think Shakey is going to change formation do you?

So Albrighton Ndidi, Drinkwater Mahrez/Gray works for me

It's Okazaki that needs to be upgraded.

Up here we have the Sheffield and District Junior Sunday Football League, the largest junior league in Europe for boys and girls playing football and small sided games from Under 7 to Under 16 and has been going for ages.

Back in 2000/2001 my son started playing in the under 8 League of the above and Harry Maguire, who was in the same age bracket as my son, was playing for Brunsmeer Athletic, who are one of the top clubs for youth football. My lad played for a few seasons and I remember playing Brunsmeer so we probably played against him, although in those days he played as a midfielder apparently.

I gather he's a Sheffield Wednesday fan too, even though he went through Sheffield United Academy, so will have something in common with Jamie Vardy.

No I don't think Shakey will change formation.

I agree that we need a creative central midfielder as a potential alternative to Okazaki.

But I also think we need to strengthen "defensive" central midfield. We have plenty of players in that position but still think we need to strengthen it and ship a few out Drinkwater was abysmal from October onwards, and the jury is still out on N'Didi for me. He had a great start but was awful the last 8 games or so. Amartey/King/James - none are good enough at this level.

Glad we can disagree then.

Really pleased we've signed Maguire. I think he's got the potential to go on to big things. Hopefully learn the dirty side of defending from Huth to build on his obvious talent with the ball.

Young English centerbacks are hard to come by so 12 million is a bargain in today's crazy market.

As mentioned in another post I was hoping for one of Keane/Maguire/Gibson (in the order). I think the chance of signing Keane has gone.

The sporting Gijon guy will do. Keane isn't coming to liccle lester.

As much as he looks like a carthorse, he could be the best (as in most important) signing of any PL team this off-season. (We badly need to strengthen our defence and this is a good start).
