Sorry for the embarrassing misspelling of his name in the thread title.

The most completely wrong appointment in every possible way that I can think of

Ho hum

Cautiously optimistic. He’s had a decent career.

The main complaint seems to be stemming from Southampton fans saying that he was too defensive, but Southampton’s squad suited defensive football because they had basically no strikers. They’ve hardly been pulling up any trees in the goalscoring department since Puel left and they currently sit in 10th, lower than where he left them.

I’m hopeful he’ll turn out to be a good appointment.

Agree with this. He's had a decent career and there is barely a manager out there who hasn't had his ups and downs. Cautiously optimistic as well.

What we need now is some long term vision and a manager who's given the chance to deliver that. Hope this is the man to do it.

Puel is an interesting appointment. I can understand why the owners are interested - to take Southampton to 8th with their squad is impressive.

Suspect no other frigger was interested. Welcome aboard Mr Poo, careful what you serve in the canteen.

The more people cast him off, the more I want him to do well.
To get any premier league team defending well against some of the league's better opposition is difficult.

He may not be stylish but he is ours. We must support him until it is no longer possible.

Hmm fingers crossed. If he can kick these players up the ass and straighten some the others out I will be pleased.

Welcome Puel!

Think people are being overly negative about this based on Southampton fans saying the football was boring.

It’s a bit underwhelming maybe, but could be a shrewd appointment.

He’s criticised for playing boring defensive passing football at Southampton, but they lost the likes of Pelle and Mane before he arrived, had injuries to others, so had very little attacking talent in his squad. And they still finished 8th, reached a cup final and were playing in the Europa League.

Our defence is far weaker than our attack. We have a group of talented attacking players - Vardy, Slimani, Mahrez, Shinji, Iheanacho, Albrighton are all good players. Gray and Musa potentially could be.

Maybe Puel adapts to the squad he’s got and realised Southampton would struggle for goals so wanted to make them tighter defensively.

His reputation from France when he joined Southampton was very good, and his teams were known from playing attractive attacking football and a high pressing game.

Or maybe the owners believed that if he can make us more defensively solid again, then the attackers will be good enough to get something.

I’m fairly undecided about this one, but think writing him off on the back of Southampton fans wanting prettier football is pretty crazy. If you look at what else he’s done in his career, then it doesn’t look too bad.

Underwhelming maybe, but not a disaster.

Either way, he’s here now anyway. So back him, back the team, and let’s hope it works out.
