£60 million?! SIXTY MILLION? All we needed was a flat field, a leather ball weighing about 10lbs when wet, the inevitable jerseys for goal posts, a big stick to chase the dogs off the pitch, a smaller stick to scrape the mud off your boot studs, a skinny kid with glasses to go in goal - and on a good day - a shared bottle of Tizer at half time.

You sound like my brother, he's adamant that the World Cup should always be played in England/Scotland in February on pitches like the Baseball Ground in the 70's.

Sound s like a great guy, but England's only win in the World Cup was on a sunny, warm July day in 1966 !
 
I'd rather it was invested in building up the stadium to around 42,000 like I'm sure was originally planned .

There wouldn't be anything like 10,000 spare seats. As it is at the moment there have been people who have been unable to get season tickets in each of the past two seasons and it is virtually impossible for an occasional fan to get to any match at all. Even League Cup games have sold out!

If the club has a real ambition to stay at the top, it needs to maximise its revenue in every possible way. To think of 10,000 empty seats is to think of City in the Championship.
 
I remember when we used to squeeze 42,000 in to Filbert Street for some big games and sitting on the Popular side touch line with hundreds of other kids. Filbert Street was fine for Division 2, we just had more space to move around.
 
My reaction to this is very positive as long as it is an asset of the club rather than King Power.

When they bought the stadium, it was a King Power purchase, not a Leicester City one.

I understand that the distinction doesn't matter at the moment but it may be very important in the future.

Our current training ground is the clubs only remaining tangible asset.

If the owners sell Belvoir Drive, absorb the profits and then King Power take ownership of the new training ground, long term it could be terrible for us.
According to the last LCFC accounts, the stadium is owned by Leicester City Football Club Ltd, therefore King Power do not own it.

Interesting. The purchase was made by K Power Holdings Co Ltd back in 2013. I recognise that the owners have often made out that the stadium was returned to the club/fans etc but that wasn't strictly true. King Power took it on from Teachers.

The owners have either turned their purchase over to the club and it has become an asset (hope so) or the accounts are not detailed enough to show who really owns the stadium.

Buying up the stadium, training ground and any other assets was exactly what Gaydamak did at Portsmouth. Which their fans were all fine with until he got fed up and let them rot. I have great regard for what our owners have done for the club financially and no reason to believe that their commitment will end any time soon, but it won't last forever. I'd just like there to be some security around who owns what remains when they eventually move on.

The accounts show the stadium as an asset, so yes, it is owned by the club. It is in the accounts at a depreciated value of £40 million. The club owes King Power £30 million, but not all that may be due to the transfer of the stadium to the club. To be fair, the share capital ( essentially money they put in not as loans ) amounts to some £113 million.

That sounds like the club have effectively switched mortgage providers from one that charged interest to one that doesn't.
 
It was reported at the time that when the club put in the £100million+, it was not as loans, i.e. they could not get it back as a creditor. It was effectively a 'gift' to the club to wipe out all it's debts. it may be the same with the stadium.

We should all wish the city council the best of luck in realising their asking price.

For all I know, it could well be a realistic asking price. I know not the going rates, nor what property developers/investors are prepared to pay for prime location property.

The question is in the definition of 'realistic asking price'. Presumably the council sold it to the golf club at a realistic price for a golf club. What is the realistic price for a football training ground? Or is Soulsby trying to 'screw rich foreigners'. I'm sure that people living closer than I do will have an opinion on that.
