The Mahrez Saga

There isn’t exactly a bidding war. With just one club interested we’re going to struggle to get any more than that.

We could always decide not to sell of course, but I can’t see the club taking that stance this time round.

Yup. He's probably worth more to us but Man City definitely have the better hand here. We can accept to sell or reject and have him huffing again as it doesn't appear that anyone else will come in. The whole saga is a shitty one.

Maguire is a level (slab) headed guy from what I've seen/heard in interviews. I don't think he'll be the type to come back and coast to Christmas before chasing a 1 off contract. although god knows he deserves to play at the highest level if players like Boating, Hummels, Thiago Silva and Luiz have 50 champs league games each. That said, nowwe have stars of the world cup (Kasper, Ndidi, Maguire all strong performers, even Musa ) the owners need to do something to show that their enhanced ambitions can be met at Leicester still. Which means confidence of big time European football - which means big signings!
I think the Mahrez money will need to go back in above and beyond the £50m that's been spent already on Maddison, Ricardo and Evans.

Maguire will get a big contract this summer whether we sell or not, I'd give him the captaincy too

From the Mirror:

Manchester City are poised to announce the capture of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester in a stunning deal worth £67million.

The Algerian winger is understood to have signed a £200,000-a-week, five-year deal at the Etihad with an option to extend.

The 2016 PFA Player of the Year tried to force the move in January, only to briefly go on strike after Leicester refused to sanction his sale.

But he has now become the Premier League champions’ first summer signing since winning the title after knuckling down and biding his time to earn his dream move.

Mahrez was given permission by the Foxes to miss their pre-season trip to France on Monday to conclude the deal.

He is understood to be unfazed by the fact that he would be a squad player rather than a member Pep Guardiola’s first eleven.

I wouldn’t give a shit either if I was earning £200k a week.

He should give a shit.

No wonder he's not genuinely kicked on over the last few years.

From The Guardian:

Manchester City are optimistic Riyad Mahrez will be unveiled as their £60m record signing by Friday, after they made a breakthrough with Leicester City.

The proposed transfer had stalled because Leicester wanted the City winger Patrick Roberts as part of the deal but it is thought that demand has been dropped. Mahrez had been holding out for a sizeable sum he believed Leicester owed him, and this may now have been resolved.

Pep Guardiola turned to the Algerian in the January transfer window when his first choice, Alexis Sánchez, opted to sign for Manchester United. A move failed to materialise after Leicester demanded around £95m. No formal offer was made then.

The total value of the current deal is expected to rise to around £75m, its basic £60m fee eclipsing City’s record £57.2m paid to Athletic Bilbao for defender Aymeric Laporte in January.

I can stomach £60m with add ons to get to £75m. Obviously we don't know what those add ons are, but you'd suspect at Man City there's a good liklihood of him at least hitting some of those payout-inducing goals.

Sad to see him go still but we knew it was coming and we just need to get it finished and move on.

Could also be that he backs his own ability and even though he's been told he'll be a squad player, he believes he'll prove his worth and claim a first team spot. I think hell be incredible for them.

In spite of his childishness over the past couple of windows I can’t bring myself to dislike him.

He has something unique about him.

I will remember him for being the greatest and most skillfull player ever to grace our club.

All the best to you Riyad, go to Man City and tear the place up (except when you are playing against us of course).

Thank you for the incredible memories.

£60m now and back to us on loan in January for the rest of the season after barely playing.

Ta very much.
