Palace away on 2nd January is looking rather tricky from Leicester on the train. Does anyone suggestion any alterative rail route into London?

What's looking tricky about it? Seems trains running normal weekday schedule according to East Midlands Trains

Re: Go Away

Why do you think it's tricky?

It looks like a decent service.

Sunday 1 and Monday 2 January

A half-hourly train service will run between London St Pancras International and Bedford. An hourly train service will run between East Midlands Parkway and Derby/Sheffield, and also between East Midlands Parkway and Nottingham.

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Bedford and East Midlands Parkway (half hourly, direct bus service)
  • Bedford and East Midlands Parkway (half hourly, calling at all intermediate stations)
  • Bedford and Leicester (hourly, direct bus service)
  • Leicester and Loughborough / East Midlands Parkway
Maybe I am mis-reading it.

Either way it's £50 return.

I don't see any difficulty. Has the game been moved to 7am?

The train ticket sites are showing normal services for the day. They are not showing any cheap advance tickets though, which sometimes happens if there's a chance of engineering work. As the info has been on the National Rail site for a week there's no excuse for the ticket sites to be wrong, so maybe the engineering work is not definite at the moment. The East Midlands Trains site may have more reliable info.
