I'm really sad about the decision but the decision was right. We were dead men walking. Our performances have been totally inept of late.

I am really really sad about this. Probably right, but it feels like the end of something that was really beautiful that can never ever be bettered. Thank you Claudio.

Only one of the last five managers to win the Premier League has survived the whole of the following season (and that was a mistake - Pellegrini).

I think this is desperately sad and it is not in keeping with the owners previous loyalty to managers.

Pearson had the club 10 points adrift at the bottom of the league for six months and the owners stuck with him despite his ever increasing outrageous behaviour towards the media and staff and players of other clubs.

What has Ranieri done that is so much worse? Senior players have publicly stated that there are no problems with Ranieri.

Did he shit in everyone's new blue BMWs?

I hope that the truth does come out, because no-one deserves that sort of treatment 9 months after the greatest achievement in the club's history.

If we had gone on to beat Liverpool and Hull the team would be almost home and dry.

I can only think that there is something structural which has convinced the owners that we could not win the next two games if Ranieri stayed.

MON may have gotten us a top 10 finish 5 years in a row, but he never came close to getting us anywhere near the title. Ranieri is and will remain a legend, and he did not just let the Great Escape continue unchanged. He changed us from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2. He brought Kante in and gave him the freedom to play his game. He allowed Mahrez and Vardy to have free rein. He fundamentally changed the way we played football.

If the owners have someone amazing lined up I may be forgiving because relegation means an income drop of £100million plus. If this is a knee jerk reaction though it will undo a huge amount of goodwill they have earnt with the fans.

Our club have shown they can be loyal, that they don't rush or panic. As much as I personally liked Ranieri, I'm prepared to accept there is good reason, even if I can't see it. I doubt that we'll ever hear more officially, out of respect.

I thank CR for our best ever year, I feel a sadness but I trust the club. We move on.

Reporter: how do you think the players will feel?

Taggart: Err. I'll let you make your own mind up. I wouldn't like to say.

I've just done a trawl around the players twitter feeds and they've all gone remarkably quiet. Nobody wishing him well even.

Silence speaks volumes sometimes.

Normal when a manager is sacked all of a sudden

Players never come straight out with anything immediately in these circumstances and, in most cases, never do at all

On a resignation ir retirement, but never when a manager is sacked like this

Just put on the DVD from last year, watched about 1 minute of it and wanted to punch several of the players in the face. Which is patently ridiculous given the source material.

This will leave some scars on the club.

No man is an Iland, intire of it selfe; every man is a peece of the Continent, a part of themaine; if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the lesse, as well as if aPromontorie were, as well as if a Mannor of thy friends or of thine owne were; any mansdeath diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee
dilly ding dilly dong

A quick browse of tinternet shows the club are being seen as a reet bunch of ****s. Can't argue with that.

And a businessman who stands by and watches his club disappear into the championship is a.....? Fool? Idiot?

Short sighted from the owners.

I thought were decent and believed in respect.

That was why I accepted the Pearson sacking.

They asked CR if he'd stay if we were relegated last year, he agreed.

We're not even relegated yet and they've shat on Claudio.

I want to say it was a pleasure having such a nice man in charge of the team. it made me feel good. Thanks claudio.
