Speculation Motown's hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded Summer 2017 rumours thread

Because, why not...

I'm sure that we'll see plenty more speculation regarding KS, but your starter for 10 is:

UNITED LINE UP MOVE FOR SCHMEICHEL

Manchester United are said to be making plans for life without David De Gea, and they supposedly centre around Kasper Schmeichel.

According to Don Balon, Jose Mourinho is eyeing up the Leicester keeper with a view to a move this summer.

Apparently, Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on the 30-year-old, which all sounds very convenient. The same report says Real may be prepared to allow United a free run at Schmeichel. What could they possibly want in return?

Sauce?

I'll be amazed but delighted if we keep Kasper this summer.
Don Balón (a Spanish weekly sports magazine specializing in Spanish and international football).

No idea on its reliability, but doubt there's much concrete info atm.

On current form no way we can keep Kasper, especially if United come knocking.

It's why Zieler was signed I suspect.

We will lose players to 'glamour' clubs... but we'll take players from clubs less glam than us. Fishes and littler fishes, or however the rhyme goes*.

We're still climbing the glamour ladder but it's true to say that we're nearer the top than the bottom.

*Edit: I'm getting my fish and fleas muddled. It can happen to us all...

Big fleas have little fleas,
Upon their backs to bite 'em,
And little fleas have lesser fleas,
and so, ad infinitum.

And the great fleas, themselves, in turn
Have greater fleas to go on;
While these again have greater still,
And greater still, and so on.

United won't come knocking. He'd improve Liverpool or Man City but I'd be very surprised if he interested either of them. He's the wrong sort of keeper for Pep and Klopp.

I think he'll be here next season. He's a key player for us but I'd say his character and personality matters more than his keeping ability. It's easy to get deflected from the fact that he's been bang average to poor most of this season. He's excelled recently but his positioning for the free kick was as shocking as ever on Saturday.

In summary, I think we're perfect for each other and both parties are unlikely to be able to do any better. And if Zieler was bought to take over as first team keeper then whoever recruited him needs shooting.

He hasn't been bang average or poor. He hasn't excelled as he did last season (until recently) because we haven't played well as a team and particularly at CB.

I really don't know what you expect from a keeper - Kasper has faults but I wouldn't swap him for any other keeper in this country at present.

I am genuinely interested to understand where he should have positioned himself for the free kick in order to save it?

It was a fantastic free kick in my opinion.

I always love your defence of our players and club.

Having said that, Kasper does go through a poor period at the beginning of most seasons and again part way through. He is a great shot stopper and an above average keeper but he isn't even top 5 (perhaps not top 10) of keepers in the prem. I hope we keep him but if we get a great offer I wouldn't be against him being sold. As fans we become myopic and don't really judge well players from other teams when compared to our own.

Thanks (I think).

Yes there are inevitably dips in form throughout a season and as others he has these.

I just don't advocate that he isn't a very, very good keeper who would be extremely difficult to replace and even more difficult to replace for a reasonable amount of money.

I am curious ~ who are the five in the Premir Lesgue who you say are better than Kasper?

What would be a great offer FIF and what who would you get for the money?

Many thanks.

Top ten? He belly dances into that.

Courtois, De Gea, Lloris
....
....
...maaaybe Forster....maaaaybe Foster (but not really).

(Cech past his prime in my opinion)

But that's because you're looking through blue tinted glasses at a time that we've won 4 in a row.

I think that keeper is the deepest position and the best position in the Prem league. We could swap in most of the prem keepers to our team and some of the back-up keepers and not have much if any fall off in play ( or results).

On goalkeeping ability, I'd have him eighth after (in order):

De Gea, Lloris, Butland, Courtois, Cech, Forster and Heaton

However, as I said, for his character and personality around the club, his value is greater than his ability alone.

Your last point is how I see it too. He is a very good goalkeeper, but, more than that, he is obviously a very important player to our squad.

Cech has been awful this year. Butland may have been good previously, but hasn't played a game all season

Apart from that, having the sixth best keeper in the League is something to celebrate. On current form alone, he is higher than that
