Riyad Mahrez has revealed his desire to leave Leicester City this summer but he faces a battle to exit the King Power Stadium with the club reluctant to sell their star winger.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Mahrez said he has told City 'now is the time for him to move on.'
However, City do not want the Algerian's stay at the club to end just yet.
Mahrez has three years remaining on his lucrative contract, signed last August, while his PFA Player of the Year win, his Ballon d'Or nomination, his Champions League experience, as well as his 28 goals and 17 assists registered over the past two seasons make him a considerably valuable asset.
Only an offer in the vicinity of £50million would see City consider parting ways with the 26-year-old, despite his hopes for the club to 'respect his decision'.
Earlier this month, Mahrez expressed his desire to "play in the Champions League every season" and it seems the winger, when he talks of moving on to a "new experience", is referring to a club playing in Europe's top competition.
Mahrez thrived in the Champions League this season, saving his best performances for the tournament, including a season-best display in the last-16 second-leg victory over Sevilla at the King Power Stadium.
But outside of the European campaign, he has performed below expectations, with his body language occasionally suggesting he was uncomfortable battling relegation rather than fighting for the title.
Sections of City supporters have become frustrated with Mahrez and have been vocal in their support for Demarai Gray, the 20-year-old starlet who has had to play back-up to the Algerian and Marc Albrighton.
With Tom Lawrence and Harvey Barnes returning to City following successful loans spells, the club have plenty of depth in wide areas.
However, City will not look to promote from within unless they receive a big offer for their star man.

It's like having a supermodel girlfriend when you're young. After a couple of years, as you begin to get a bit older, it becomes apparent that she's too good for you and you both realise that. She becomes a bit disinterested and doesn't put as much effort into the relationship and you realise that it's better for you both to move on. It was nice while it happened, but all good things must come to an end.

On last season's performance yes he is. If we sold him back then we possibly would've got that. Him making it clear as day that he wants out and doing marginally above **** all this season has made that unlikely IMO. We can say we've got a price and piss about, play hardball etc but similarly to Wham and Payet there becomes a point where you accept a transfer due to squad morale. Our price last summer was obviously above what anyone was willing to pay and I can't see his value having gone up.

Very similar situation really. Player who was fantastic one season, stayed at West Ham and didn't look half the player the next.

Not disagreeing there. The situation he's created means that everyone knows he's desperate to leave. We have a player wanting out and other clubs know this won't bode well for us to keep him (he's proved that this season even before making it official).

In my head he's gone and perhaps has been for a season. Not a perfect situation but if we don't get £40m for him I will be stunned.

You'll know what I'm on about here - in America there is a thing called a contract year. Statistically players improve in that year, ahead of free agency. It ultimately gets them the big dollar. I know it's slightly different over here, but I almost feel like he has cost himself a move to a real big boy team.
