Am I the only one who thinks that Iheanacho isn't that good?

He is only 20 Micky, give him a chance, a buy back at double what we have apparently paid, seems a fair deal to me. He might flop, but he might just be a real good one, obviously Man C. think he could the real deal.

That was my first thought. Although, I'd expect that a scout is as valuable in terms of the players we don't go on to sign, as those we do.

We use (or we did under Walsh) a stats based recruitment approach. Stats identified targets and scouts decided on whether to pursue them or not. For all we know, he could have saved us a fortune. He could also be monitoring young players from those leagues that we've not considered signing as yet, but would if they developed a bit further. Now Everton are in pole position for any of them.

I react to any poaching of our staff in the same way. Disappointed that our excellent recruitment structure is being weakened. I felt the same when our stats geeks like McKenzie went to Spurs and Wrigglesworth went to Arsenal. And of course when we lost Walsh himself. Just because they don't score goals or make tackles, doesn't mean that they're not key personnel.

I'm pretty sure MacKenzie would come back if we wanted him. After leaving Spurs and having spells at Derby and Sunderland he's now unemployed. Doubt we'd take him though, stats geeks are ten-a-penny. They're not key personnel, they're sat on Microsoft excel looking at numbers for about £30k per year. It's a fine job, to be clear, but they're disposable, not key personnel.

I'm not saying the role they play is not useful. I'm saying as individuals they can easily be replaced.

Essentially anybody who has played football manager and searched for players based on goals scored or assists has done their job. Literally anyone who is competent on a computer and capable of performing basic analysis of a database could do the job. There's no magic to it. They're told to search through the database for certain stats and the result of that is a list of players which the real scouts then take further.

I'm sure we all know the story of how Mahrez was scouted - it had nothing to do with the stats geeks, they had us looking at a different player.

Swansea have apparently rejected a £30m bid from Everton for Sigurdsson.

It's understandable in the PL of today. Clubs have so much money that they don't need to sell their starters. We could (and should if we believe he'll get his form back) reject a £100m offer for Mahrez. We're not in the days of top league clubs like us needing to sell to balance the books, that's a small league mentality.

Teams only need to sell players that aren't going to get on the pitch for them and to use that money to buy better players.

Leicester is now one of the richest clubs in the world, Swansea aren't far behind. It's the European clubs who will need to sell.

Totally agree FIF (perhaps not that Mahrez is worth £100m or that anyone would offer that)...

The difference between Mahrez and Sigurdsson though is that Mahrez has said he wants to leave the club so rejecting (acceptable) offers for him would be counterproductive IMO. There are also rumours that he has asked the club to lower their valuation of him in order that he can get his move.

But he still has 3 years on a contract - it's not the last season. So we don't have to lower his price or sell him.

Arsenal are apparently offering £50m for Lacazette who really isn't all that good.

No, we don't HAVE to sell him but the alternative is a player who doesn't want to be here, similar to West Ham and Payet.

Yeah he's only scored 76 goals in 97 games over the past three seasons.

Useless duffer. Almost as useless as that Danny Simpson bloke.

My understanding of Payet was that he was extremely toxic at the club not sure if Mahrez is that kind of player. Will be interesting to see what he classes as a big club it will also be interesting to see who actually bids for him.

We don't know that. He could put his heart into his football and be a professional unlike Payet. He seems a thoroughly likeable honest chap to me.

Suggesting that a player can tell the club to reduce his fee is like suggesting a club tells a player to reduce his salary.

If we're not happy at Christmas we can always sell him in the more expensive Winter transfer slot.

You've clearly rarely seen him play or watched much French Football. He isn't fit to shine Griezmanns boots. He's a good player but you can find a dozen of him in France.
