Speculation Motown's hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded Summer 2017 rumours thread

Agreed. He really hasn't fulfilled his potential
And that's the true of many of the players who won us the league. Before that season. I think Barkley would be interested. I think he'd be expensive.

But I do think he would have a lot to offer us. And we could help him as well.

Would be a good signing.

Transfer update from me.
I think Barkley is overrated and would not welcome him at filbert street.
I like Deeney a lot and think a strike force of him and Vardy would be wonderful.
Also, surely Mr Iborra is going to be a class above. 3 Europa leagues and 4th in La Liga. He cannot be a mug.

So it's a no to Barkley, but a yes to Deeney? :104:

I think you and I might see things a bit differently, Micky, buddy.

I also think, despite what people think of these two players, the signing of one of them would be interpreted as a sign of a club on the up and the other would be viewed as a club who are comfortably settling into West Brom territory.

I predict that Deeney would be a tremendous success. Game of opinion s and all that.
I also think that Iheanacho would be a terrible buy.

To add, for me Barkley is one of these overhyped young English players that has never actually delivered anything of note. Drinkwater has achieved and delivered more than him and he's gets slated by many.

No point defending our most consistently good midfielder over the last few years Micky, people on here only remember when he played through his injury to help save us from relegation last season.

Barkley is living off the hype he had when he broke into the England set-up. He's the embodiment of our squad's self-satisfied laid back start to last season, utterly wrong for a future where we are supposed to be challenging for Europe.

I'm staggered anybody could welcome Deeney, does it need pointing out we're no longer a Championship side? But then again, such low expectations do fall in line with the spectacular own-goal of retaining Shakey in the first place.

West Brom? We should be so lucky.

I don't recall West Brom winning the title recently?
I like the idea of adding some quality with steel to the side and Iborra and Deeney do that.
If we think, with the addition of £40m+ for Mahrez we could be sat on roughly a quarter of a billion pounds of income from last year then £20m on Deeney is just am investment in the squad, one that will be largely offset of Mendy, Musa and/or Ulloa depart.
No big drama in going after Deeney. It's not a make or break bet for me.
The real interest for me is in if we add Gibson/Mbodji or Acerbi to the ranks and if we can get Sigurdsson or Defrel. Stretching the offer to get Sigurdsson would be the real statement of intent. Barkley has never delivered the stats he has (goals, assists, set pieces) and so there is no certainty he ever will.
Also keeping Kasper, Gray and Chilwell would be a coup

A side like the below would not smack of a lack of ambition in my opinion.

Schmeichel
Gibson Huth Maguire
Albrighton Ndidi Iborra Chilwell
Sigurdsson Gray
Vardy

It wouldn't be massively exciting to be a West Brom but at least you're almost guaranteed Prem football. That would be a preferable route to what we seem to have now which is a select group of players running the shop and risking the club's league status over menu changes and personality clashes.

I've used West Brom as an example of the point I was trying to make, rather than them in particular. I could easily have used Stoke as an alternative.

I look at Everton and Southampton who are viewed at a level above those teams (IMO), in terms of how they are perceived. I'd like to be in that bracket, at least.

For me Deeney is exactly the type of player that could come in and deliver. He and Vardy would be absolutely horrible to play against. They are the kind of players that would go to the emirates and bully the Arsenal players into submission. Deeney has one more opportunity to prove himself as a very good premiership player. He has a great work ethic, has scored plenty of goals (in a very average team) and by all accounts is a great leader in the changing rooms. Yes please.

I don't think Messi wants to join us.

He's scored 23 goals in two full Premier League seasons

Nine of them were penalties

I am aware of that but I think he has played in a very average team. I think he would thrive in our side.
