Mahrez

Morgan says Mahrez is not playing 'grumpy old git' at the moment, so I am happy that he is not poisoning the dressing room and he gets my support.

If he is picked and plays well in the first three matches, we might do well in terms of results, and maybe a big payday if someone meets our valuation.

I am sure that if Mahrez turns into 'grumpy old git' because he is still here in September, then Shakey will dump him in with the kids for training and matches.

I hope the club are not looking at Gray as being the Mahrez backup/upgrade. Maybe for Albrighton.

This isn't true. It's widely accepted that the owners talked to Mahrez last summer and asked him to stay one more year and then they'd allow him to leave. Numerous sources have said as much since last year. Do you not think other clubs know this?

In this context, his statement isn't what you say at all. It is simply a reflection of an agreement made last year and confirmation that Mahrez wanted to move on this summer.

This is why I think it's incredible how little negativity was held for Kante (who ditched us at the first opportunity) and much more for Mahrez (who stayed put and gave us another season when he could have done a Payet and got his dream move when his profile was highest). Indeed, it is pretty obvious that staying with us last season has harmed his future prospects because just like everyone else, his form dropped off.

We're well within our rights to set a £50m price tag and say to Mahrez that we'll sell him if it's met. It's not the club's fault, or Mahrez's fault, that the only clubs genuinely interested so far are being tin pot tossers about it all.
These are the facts of the matter eloquently summed up. Mahrez is being painted as the villain by some who are guessing at what he could be saying or using misguided and inaccurate inference to force meaning upon snippets they read on social media.

The truth is that he's done nothing wrong really but simply expects the club to honour an agreement he didn't have to make. As BN quite rightly points out, an agreement which has harmed his prospects of playing for his dream club (waits for comments about his percieved 'lack of effort', 'not caring enough, 'laziness' blah blah blah).

Still, it's much easier to paint him as a whinging pre-madonna who is throwing his toys out of the proiverbial pram, even if that is patently untrue.

As for not starting him on Friday - well that is simply ludicrous. He is a Leicester player until he leaves and our best one at that. He's the only one to show any real class during pre-season. Starting him is a no brainer.

Then why did he sign a five year contract when he knew he was only staying for a year? My guess is the owners knew his value and with a five year contract they have leverage over the price and they have placed on him. Which is not unreasonable given his achievements and on going potential. No one is suggesting he will not be sold , but he is not going to be 'given away', because he wants to leave. Meet the asking price get the player it's that simple.

Of course, despite being " widely accepted ", that alleged conversation may not have taken place. Not having been in on the supposed meeting myself I have no idea if such a guarantee was given or not given. I'm not sure I would believe everything the Fourth Estate or Mahrez's agent puts out. Just sayin'.

I'd like him to play.

There's an incentive for him to play well, in that, after a lacklustre season last year, it might encourage teams to bid for him, which would also benefit us in that teams appear to want to get him on the cheap, currently.

Ultimately, I'd like him to stay, but if he isn't going to, then I'd like us to get a fair price for him.

To protect his interests. He signed a contract for such length in case anything happened within that year. He's not going to sign on for a year with no protection whatsoever after that given 12 months.

As for the rest of your post, I agree. He shouldn't be sold for less than his 'value' in this ludicrous market. It doesn't mean he should be made the villain whilst he is still here and playing for us though.

This is a rare good thread in my opinion.

There are always differing views but this one has some absolute opposite viewpoints from various posters.

Good stuff
