Speculation Motown's hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded Summer 2017 rumours thread

Sad to say, but unfortunately I think it is entirely down to the manager. If we had a 'name' like Ranieri or Koeman or de Boer then there is no difference in attraction.

Sadly true. This lot got their way though and now we have to wait and see if giving their mate the job will work out.

If we had a 'name' like Ranieri, we would probably be plying our trade in the Championship.
Wasn't for a minute suggesting we should have kept Claudio. Much easier to attract players if you have a well-known manager rather than someone that few have heard of.

We've tried 'big' names. Ranieri was the only success. For one season. I also think there is far more to who a player decides to sign for than a manager who, inevitably (as history tells us), will depart within the contract period.

I think you underestimate the power of money.

£45 million for Sigurdsson, no thanks. Overrated and overpriced.
We have a manager who can only attract second rate trash like the Sevilla captain, Kelechi Iheanacho and Harry Maguire (who was wanted by Spurs). Hard times.

If 'this lot' hadn't 'got their way' we wouldn't be having a discussion about which players to sign for our Premier league season. We'd more than likely be discussing which players we could attract to help us get promotion.

Look, I'm all for celebrating the remarkable achievements of Ranieri (and his team) and will be forever grateful to them for giving me one of the finest moments in have experienced, however let's not forget just how dreadful we were last season. This wasn't just down to the players.

Excellent. Very well put........

Although I'd have spent the 45m on Sigurdsson!

Didn't say it was. I just wonder if the players (not all) gave a **** about the fans last season while they were trying to get their own way. For all the good they've given us it does still piss me off how most of last season went.

Like I said, this wasn't just down to the players. Some of us think that the management were perhaps much more to blame.

My point was really about this concept of players not wanting to sign for a club solely on the basis of who the gaffer happens to be at that given time. It's just patently absurd to suggest this. I think most players will be swayed by money, as distasteful as this may seem to some.

Absolutely spot on. Tottenham have got one of the most exciting managers but they can't attract any players due to not paying enough.

And I very much doubt Iheanacho will have joined because of who our manager is.

But he also didn't not join because of who the manager is, which is the impression that some (not necessarily saying you) like to give.

Why oh why Leicester City? Why does it always seem like we cock up our transfers? We buy the "next big thing" or manage to beat a big club to a top touted signing who has scored tonnes elsewhere and when they come to Leicester they end up leaving after 12 months or just fizzle away without making a mark.

Kramaric comes along after reportedly choosing us over Chelsea, doesn't secure a place in the team, never gets a proper run and leaves to go to a team where he scores 15 and assists 11 in his first full season.

Tom Lawrence is signed and is a highly praised wonderkid with huge disappointment from all Man Utd management and fans when he leaves. He never gets a run in the team. He gets shipped out on loan and once again does very well in his Championship season. Then he gets sold.

Islam Slimani comes to us for a massive £28M after scoring 27 in 33 for a Champions League team the season before. He scores a respectable 7 in 23 league appearances in his first Prem season but never gets a run in the team. I mean this guy works hard, is tall and strong, has a Bullet header and scores goals for fun. We end up playing Albrighton and decide to not play Slimani. We sign him at 28 years old in his absolute prime and he doesn't even get a run. Now he's rumoured to be linked with Watford.

Demarai Gray joins us and is a top English prospect. Still a lot to learn but is lightning, great feet, a good shot and can shit up defenders multiple times in a match. Hardly ever gets a decent run, comes on late second half if we're in trouble and now enquires about his future due to lack of first team action. I bet if Spurs had signed him, he'd be in their team tearing it up similar to Dele Alli or Harry Winks.

Kapustka puts in a solid show at the Euros. Hot prospect, Good feet and great skill. Plays internationally, young and hungry. Never gets a look in. Kapustka is less of an example but still.

Even Ahmed Musa plays in the Champions League before us, is as fast as Vardy and works real hard butcan barely get into the team. Musa may not be the finished product but how do you expect him to develop if he never plays?

What's the point of signing these players if we can never do them justice? I'd bet my house that Lawrence will be excellent at the Sheep Shaggers and believe that Slimani and Gray would excel elsewhere.

It literally is like "come to Leicester to stall your career."

Money is the main thing. But if us vs a team with a proper manager offer the same money then I think we'll lose out.

Who knows how much of the blame should be apportioned where. We do know we had players not bothering as they only know one system and that fried chicken was more important than doing a well paid job, them's facts.

I'm brilliant at spending other people's money.

Jeez! I never even suspected that Mrs Boc was on here; I wonder why she chose popillius as her user name.

Or.....if you're a no mark or unwanted at Villa, stoke or qpr come to Leicester and win the premier league.

Damn us...taking strikers from little old Fleetwood and turning them into Premier League winning, England international players.

Mahrez, Vardy, Kanté, Albrighton, Schmeichel, etc etc are examples of non-cocked-up transfers. Depends on how you want to see things of course. The list is much longer for both alternatives

Damn us...taking strikers from little old Fleetwood and turning them into Premier League winning, England international players.

The success we gained with players like Simpson, Vardy, Mahrez, Huth etc has nothing to do with what I said.

My problem is with the opposite - spending ludicrous money on players with a great goal scoring record/hot prospect/next big thing and rarely making it work.

Surely someone sees the sense in what I'm saying. It's like Arsenal with their injury record. I mean, how many players have we signed that were seen to be "marquee " signings have actually done well for us in the last 5-6 years?

But you mentioned Gray and Lawrence. Would you describe the money we spent on those players as "ludicrous"?
