To be, or not to be? The Shakespeare thread.

Brian Little would be well out of his depth.....Although Shakey isn't about to get sacked, so the debate is pointless
I wasn't offering BL for debate, my comment was more the fact he didn't deserve to be on a list of underachieving City managers

But how many managers can we say that have released a classical music album
To quote Miss Dell’Olio and I think LCFC owner felt the same : “Frankly I just to want to draw a line under this business – and under this relationship. It makes me sad, but really Sven’s no longer the man I fell for.”

I accept that the people who want CS out want what they feel is best for the club. However, I feel they have a fixed idea of what a good manager is like. Two of the best managers were the ebullient Brian Clough and the taciturn Sir Alf Ramsey. When I was young the two best managers were the benign Matt Busby and Wolves manager Stan Cullis who was anything but benign. There is no managerial type.

The other criticism is that CS does not have a big reputation Nobody had a bigger reputation than Sven. I remember talking to Lazio fans in Rome and they talked about Sven the way that Forest fans talked about Clough. When Peter Taylor came to Leicester he was widely seen as the future England manager.

Lets look at the facts. We are told that last season was "shit" In fact we did well in the Premier League after Craig took over and ended in mid table. We had a good Champions League campaign I have not seen any bad results this season. We lost to Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea - any neutral would expect that. We beat Brighton at home and drew away at Huddersfield which is fine. .

No doubt Jon Rudkin and Top had a major say in the decision. Perhaps Andrew Neville and Susan Whelan were involved as well. They will have seen Craig Shakespeare work over a period of time. My experience is that you do not need long to find out whether somebody is good at the job.

I accept that football supporters are under no obligation to support individuals. I was strongly critical of Robbie Savage and Jermaine Beckford. However, I believe it is unfair to be against somebody from the moment they are appointed.

you seem to be making the assumption its because he's not a name that we have concerns over Shakespeare rather than the apparent tactical deficiencies and baffling use of subs, blind loyalty to a small group of player etc.

I'd be delighted to be proved wrong but Shakespeare isn't showing any signs that he is developing as a manager IMO

Spot on - I don't recall anyone saying that they give a monkeys whether he's a 'name' or not

People are (rightly) judging him on what they see

As for the appointment, underwhelming is the word that comes to mind, big name players may find our manager too unknown to come to the club, .

My worry is not so much the team performance but getting the players of the right quality in. Will they come for Shakey unless we offer ridiculous wages?

FIF, you may well be right, I fear for the future, Shakey is an unknown quantity to agents and players, we are going to rely heavily on our youngsters.

Apologies to "lcfc rules", FIF and Border for quoting them from a previous thread.

These are respected posters and the idea that Craig Shakespeare was not a big enough name to attract players was not confined to these three. To be fair Skitzo and Homer I accept you did not make that point

We have a home game against West Brom and away games against Bournemouth and Swansea coming up. If we get three points or less I will certainly question CS future. Four points will be just about alright. Five points or above I will feel things are going well.

Lets not rush to judgement. My favourite American President is Dwight Eisenhower and one of his favourite sayings was "Lets not hurry into mistakes."
