Mahrez needs a break

Mahrez isn't one of our best players on current form.

Mahrez is our most talented player. Our most creative player. Our second most important player (after Vardy). He was our best player at Arsenal, excellent against Brighton. As good as anyone at Man Utd. He was less effective in his last three matches but nowhere near the worst players we had on show.

Our current problem is that he's playing so deep that he's never going to be as effective going forward as we'd all want. His defensive work this season has been excellent, much better than I've ever seen from him. However, he's in his own half way too much and that's because our midfield is total shit and he's got no choice.

Mahrez has still had the same number of touches of the ball as Vardy and Albrighton combined this season. He's made more passes than Vardy and Albrighton combined, and has most assists this season. Why would anyone leave a player like that out?

It's the trendy thing to do

I love Mahrez. I think he needs a break... That's all, he's clearly our best player.

I feel sorry for Iborra. Not suited to our 'style' - maybe not suited to our league. Ridiculously early to make that judgement I know - but some how can't see Iborra's stay with us being a great success under Shakey. I would take Alex's preferred side but start Iborra on the bench and play Slimani as the main striker, Nacho on the bench and Okazaki linking attack and midfield until he is knackered.

I sense that the club is trying to ride out a bit of a storm around very poor results and mishandling of the Silva 'transfer'....but this game and the next few may test their resolve. Probably got wrong manager; probably got obsolete playing formation; certainly got an inadequate level of quality in midfield. We really need a win at Bournemouth.

But what has he actually done?
Last time he was dropped, he came back a better player.
Maybe the same will happen.
Only 1 way to find out

Why would anyone leave a player like that out?

Because he s playing poorly and doesnt fit into our shit system which is slowly killing him as a player.

We will indeed keep flogging him out there on the right, pretending he can defend and still attack with great effect (he can't)

Even he's had enough and it shows.

Either adapt the system to fit in a player like him or give something else a try. I can't watch him run into players as if they aren't there anymore.

At this rate he wont even have Roma as the only team in Europe showing an interest.

Mr Untouchable, regardless of how shite he is week after week after week after week

You couldn't make it up

Mahrez has been dogbob most games. Should drop him, but contrary to popular belief - Shakey hasn't got 2 balls.

I also don't buy this bollacks that every player we sign needs 8 years to bed in and get up to speed. Iborra is the ex captain of a 3 times uefa cup winning side. The bloke should know his stuff better than our dipshit manager. Morata at Chelsea has hit the ground running after a switch from La Liga. I get the feeling under our current management our goal is to slowly 'shitify players'. It makes sense. Ndidi looked a class act when he first arrived. This season he gives the ball away all the time, has a poor touch and seems to wander around like a headless chicken not knowing where he should be heading....

Maguire too, why is our CB not being advised not to go dribbling around outside the opponent's area?

I can't get my head around the whole set up at the minute.

Albrighton has been far worse than Mahrez recently.

Suspect both will keep their place though, but I’d drop Albrighton for Gray.

This is perfect. Regardless of how many times you provide people with evidence that he simply isn't performing as badly as they imagine, the stock response is that he's been rubbish for ages and that's an end to it. I mean, it's not true but he's public enemy no.1 and the easiest target for everyone to blame.... well, along with the manager of course.

'Very poor' results like losing to Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United whilst winning against Brighton and drawing away at a team playing some great football and who hadn't conceded a goal at home until we got there?

Jesus wept, this place has gone into ****ing meltdown. It's actually comedy gold at the minute reading the mindless negative horse shit being trotted out week in week out.

It's the end of September and some on here are calling this a 'must win' game. I have said that winning the league has ruined some of our fans which is clearly evident in this mental hospital of a thread but I think it may well have destroyed any concept of perspective at all for some.

It is a brilliant read though.

It’s bloody boring if you ask me. Struggling to read most threads at the minute. Pessimists with their knives out already. Doommongers everywhere.

The last two games, completely agree.

But over the past 25 games, Albrighton wins it by a country mile.

Evidence? It’s mostly conjecture. The “best player at Arsenal” comment was a personal highlight.

Indeed. There will be some on here who think Carlo Ancelotti may be coming too. Or, at least preparing to come...

Tickles me.

More or less being set up to lose in the majority of the tough games isn't how it's supposed to work. Of course a bottom of the table side (which is what we are these days -if we choose to be candid)is going to lose more than we win, but knowing you are going to lose isn't the right way.

We won the title 16 months ago. We can't expect to emulate that or even be top 6 or top 8, but this season is really poor stuff.

I don't think this is fantasy thinking. The actual fantasy is around situations like Mahrez. It's irrelevant that he is very talented and once played magnificently for us. The guy is now more or less a passenger. He doesn't want to play for us and couldn't have made that clearer.
