Since when did having a high number of touches on the ball equate to a player playing well?

Mahrez has to play for me. His best game this season has come against a team where he has been able to get forward and show his quality against poorer opposition.
On that logic Bournemouth should offer him good opportunity.

I agree that his isolation is because of our shitfest of a midfield. He needs more space.
Albrighton has been disappointing so far. I'd play Gray ahead of him and give him a chance to show what he can do.

We're so limited in midfield it hurts.

Agreed. How the hell Albrighton isn't getting the same stick as Mahrez when he's been so utterly appalling for the last 2 games is beyond me. Gray, should be given an opportunity ahead of him but that brings its own worries.

We have 2 players perfect for each other in Slimani and Albrighton. Albrighton when he is even 6/10 crosses a ball better than 80% of prem wingers. We've seen Slimani's threat in the air.

Yet they never seem to play together and when they do we're playing extremely deep.
Not much point in having players if we're not playing to their advantage. I know it isn't as easy as this but still.

Oh and for the record, I'm not suggesting Mahrez has been setting the world alight, just that the criticism of him has become predictably hyperbolic.

The problem as I see it lies with the fact that Slimani is one dimensional. If Albrighton doesn't whip crosses in or is nullified, then Slimani offers very little else at all. At least with Vardy and Okazaki we have a chance of creating other openings.

I disagree. Slimani is an excellent forward whose strengtgs we are completely ignoring.

He is as good with his feet as on the air but there was s little point in him picking the ball up on the halfway line as he isn't the quickest.

He is almost the equal of Vardy as a natural finisher if not better.

He needs a midfield behind him though as does the rest of the team.

We badly need to sort our midfield out and quickly.

Mahrez this season has been much improved over last season. He hasn't been close to the previous seasons standards which I think is the basis of many people's continued frustration, but he is easily one of our best players on current form.

Personally I wish we would just tell him not to bother defending, he is putting in the effort to track back which he should be commended for, but he is not good at defending (this isn't a criticism, it's just not in his skill set). I think we would be better served by allowing him to concentrate on staying forward for the counter attacks as he did in the title winning season. It's hard for him to be effective when he is picking up the ball in our own half most of the time. An extra man in midfield to move across and cover would allow him that freedom.

If we are going to accept that plenty of teams are bigger and better than us, then Shakespeare needs to make concessions with his tactics and adapt. He has shown no willingness to do this so far but for 10 or 20 minutes here and there. I'm not saying he should go or he's doomed to failure, I'm just not sure why we've plumped for someone who doesn't know how to do the job yet when the stakes are so high (relatively speaking of course).

It's all down to opinions but one thing I'm certain of is that Shakespeare was the obvious and easy option. But there didn't seem to be a lot of choices. I think that most people believe that he is out of his depth and is a good coach but not a PL manager. As fans we just have to live with it - and hope that this will be just a wasted season rather than a disaster. Of course, it's possible that he might grow into the job but at the moment things seem to be a mirror of the first three quarters of the 2014/15 season where we kept losing but took comfort in not getting hammered.[/QUOTE]

Marco Silva, instead we tried to sign the other Silva.

Indeed. Actually, I think that kind of non-sequitur would bring out the absurd lack of imagination of that song template nicely and work as a satirical device
True although I thought it was Fuchs that was hit in the eye - and Claudio who bought the pizzas

Should be:

Kasper

Simpson
Morgan
Maguire

Chilwell
King
Ndidi
Iborra
Albrighton

Vardy
Okazaki

Will be: Same old shit.
