Hi Speedy I was listing to Ash myself but as my fellow presenter Tudor was working I couldn't get back from Leicester (picking my mum up) in time to enable Ash to help me do the show. I didn't find out Tudor was working until I was almost in Leicester, otherwise I'd have left earlier.
Hopefully next week we'll be back on and possibly play this one.

I had a listen and it's not bad. Not a patch on the Beatles mind. I watched this a few months ago and it totally revitalised my appreciation for them:

With the best will in the world, I can't see anyone producing anything similar about The Damned.

Ah...but they did though :) ( well sort of!)

It's kind of the reverse of The Beatles story.

They were heralded & exalted to the heavens.

The Damned were given the opposite treatment. Derided, dismissed, & their achievements belittled & written out of history.

Ironic really that the B side of their first ever single was a cover version of a Beatles song.

Still...my late childhood & teens owed much to them. Fun was had in great abundance & the memories are priceless.

 
I bought myself the 'Don't You Wish That We Were Dead' DVD (the only way I could see it) as I've always loved The Damned.

Great stuff it is too - bit of a shame how R. Scabies is so despised by C. Sensible nowadays tho (let's play the 1st LP in it's entirety, but NOT 'Stab Your Back'...).

Brilliant. Sad. Funny.

Agreed. I guess the whole chaos & multiple fallings out is all part of the story & made them what they are. Maybe if you took all that away they'd just have faded away? Who knows. As for the Sensible/Scabies thing in particular...well I guess we all have a mate or two that we used to be close to but ended up despising. I know I have (**** off Dave) & I guess money ruins what it touches :-(

I went to see the film at the Electric Cinema in Brum when it came out a couple of years ago. Fabulous! I recommend going if you get the chance. Proper old school cinema experience. With the added bonus that if you pre-book you can have a sofa with a coffee table & they'll bring your drinks to you from the bar! Also, the bar has an Absinthe fountain!! First one I'd seen in years. A pretty memorable night out ensued.
 
Been a while since this found it's way onto the record deck. Carries with it the memory of a particular time,place & person. As all the best music should. It was great to be young :)

 
I absolutely LOVE late 1980's British jangle pop.

Just playing The Popguns 2nd LP 'Snog'. Soft, lovely, and warm.

Anyhow, you can't get that on UTube so here's one of their other tunes, their biggest (non) hit.

Music has that power, it's the closest thing we have to a time machine. I only have to hear the first few bars of this despite all the years that have passed and all the times I've heard it and its 1974 again. I'm 18 years old and in my wife-to-be's flat listening to it with her. What a sad place the world would be without music like this:
 
Off that Al Green album it's a good job you weren't playing the track "One Night Stand" over again Speedy. ;)
I actually played Sha La La (Makes Me Happy), that's on that album, on the show last Sunday. And one of my favourites on that album is this one.

Yep, quality throughout that album. School Days is a great track, but there isn't much that the Reverend did that I didn't like. Are you on tonight?
