You must tell us some time what the laws say about "covering defenders". All that is required for a red card is for there to have been a denial of a goal-scoring opportunity.
And that isn't one, in my opinion. I wouldn't have given it, but then I have zero training as a referee so I wouldn't have been asked to.

I thought we looked pretty good to be honest. Anyone who's watched Man City this season will know what they can do to teams, and for large parts of the game I think we suppressed them. Keeping them to 2 is no mean feat. We took a few more risks after going behind but it's always a balancing act against a side like Man City... and their 2nd goal was the price of that risk.

Whatever one thinks of the success of Albrighton in the no 10 role, or of Iborra getting forward, I think Puel has to be applauded for trying something. MA was there because of his work rate, his tackling, his willing - all of which would bolster the midfield - plus of course his ability to stay on his feet!

I'm happy with how we looked and, for the most part, the performance - but then I didn't expect to win this one so I was always going to be looking at how we approached the game. I think we're in a good place considering where we've been. A signing or two in Jan, Silva to be available and I'll be feeling optimistic for the run in. I can see a top 10 finish.

How does the game change if their captain and centre half gets sent off two minutes into it?

F'real?

< mutters to self wondering why he took the bait.
It didn’t change the game though did it? They had 11 men on the field before, and 11 men on the field after.

It could have changed the entire game, yes.

The first angle, I thought "there's a covering defender, no red card"
The second angle, I thought "where's that covering defender gone?"

It's one of those fine margins which depends on the angle the ref had. The tackle itself was appalling and deserved the yellow in its own right.

Yes, Manchester could have gone on to score 4 just like ten man Bournemouth today

Early red cards (or absence thereof) don't alter the courses of games.

Got it. Thanks lads.
Early red cards do (or can). An absence of a red card doesn’t.

Comprendez?

Not a bad performance. About as good as we could have reasonably hoped. Top six clubs expect to get the benefit of marginal decisions. That's how the mop flops. If Mahrez puts in a magic performance Leicester are a different side. He doesn't do that regularly - which is why we sill have him.

Spot on.

Bewildering decision to play Albrighton as a 'number 10'. Also, the mad idea of playing Iborra in an advanced role leaving Ndidi to mark both De Bruyne and Silva. If I was in the changing room before the game being instructed to do that load of bollocks, I'd have feigned an injury to get the feck out of there.

If ever there was an example of showing a side too much respect, this was it. Everything we're strong at, we didn't do. Feeble from Puel.

That said, the ref was also a total wanker and bottled it big time. It was a clear red for me. However, once Kompany was on a yellow and then Stones off injured, what did we do to exploit them? Absolutely nothing.

I was most concerned watching our players faces when they scored the first goal. Their heads just dropped and they seemed to immediately accept that it was game over. Shocking attitude which has seeped into us a lot over recent months.

For Man City, I thought their keeper was excellent (were you watching how to distribute the ball Kasper?). If you allow De Bruyne and Silva all the space in the world they'll look superb and both did. Their front three I thought were awful. Simpson's positioning in the first half was atrocious but Sane was lazy and wasteful over and again.

Another point on Puel, he seemed happy to only lose 2-0. He wasn't trying to influence the match at all. His substitutions and positional changes were mind numbingly stupid. Still, early days I suppose.

I'm fecked off with that. I don't know if I'll bother going to the Spurs game as it will be exactly the same. We'll just watch them beat us.

Applauding Esteban at half time was the highlight of my afternoon. Utterly, utterly bored with the rest.
This is pretty much bang on the money

We were told before the game that Manchester City were a shite side. This puzzled me since shite sides find it difficult to be top of the Premier League.
It is difficult to beat a side with better players than you. When that side plays as a team, is organised, hard working and motivated you are on a loser. Whatever tactics Claude had used we would probably have lost and he would have got blamed.
Kompany should have been sent off. However, it takes a brave referee to do that in the first couple of minutes. Jack Dempsey (Heavyweight champion 1919-27) liked to hit a low blow in the first round knowing the referee would not disqualify him so early in the fight.
The last time a legendary Leicester player came out at half time it was Frankie Wortho and rather sad. This time it was Cambiasso and the occasion was perfect.

A 'covering' defender? In the literal sense, the defender was nearby. In reality, if Kompany had missed Vardy the defender would never have caught him.
Would Vardy have beaten the keeper? It does not matter. It is a 'denial of a goal scoring opportunity'.
The ref bottled it because he thought the defender would be able to catch Vardy.
