The Mahrez Saga

Why on earth should they? It's not the job of the club to engage with this kind of press at all. As far as they are concerned the matter is closed. If others want to jump on a bandwagon created by bored journalists that is their choice. Whatever has happened will be dealt with internally as it should be.

Because the vast majority of fans now think he's a ****? Because most clubs will now be hoping to get a cut price deal on a depressed player desperate to leave? Would make sense to correct this sort of shit, unless it's undeniable of course.

I notice the pro Mahrez fellas are not willing to take him missing two training sessions as the doing of the player without concrete proof, yet they are willing to blab on about this 'gentleman's agreement' in a defence of him.

Which one is it? You don't trust hearsay at all or you do but only that which can be used to support defence of the player?

If the vast majority of fans do think that then perhaps they should use their brains a little more and not be so ready to believe every little snippet of shit they read. Like I say, the job of the club is not to placate those fans who think they know everything but to win football matches. The best way to do this is not to interact with spurious stories but instead to deal with any issues that may arise in house. Just because they choose not to deny something doesn't make it true.

I don't believe the guff about a gentleman's agreement either, although that's an entirely separate point. One I may add, that I as a 'pro-Mahrez' fellow (whatever that means - why would anyone any to be anti-Mahrez?) I haven't made any reference to at all.

How would "ignoring the rumours" make Mahrez's re-integration easier? I'm sure the fans (hypersensitive or otherwise) would like some clarifying words from the club.

I think most fans want to welcome Riyad back, and see him at his best. Of course they'll forgive and forget, and chant his name. We all want things back to 'normal' asap. The club could pave the way for all of that by issuing a statement to refute what "bored journalists" have said.

Yes, there is dodgy journalism. But it does seem Mahrez went AWOL, and seemingly is still staying away, and no official source is denying that despite it being a common conception.

Even though a hostile crowd won't help our chances? What about the value of bids coming in? It makes perfect sense to deny this stuff. I take most stuff reported by sky and the rags with a pinch of salt but that we're more than happy to let the fans turn on him makes me believe them this time.

So if the club doesn't deny it, he is guilty. If the club says it's true, he is guilty. If the club does deny it, the story stays in the press, most news outlets will choose not to believe the denial anyway as this sells more papers and the circle of madness continues. It is such a simple premise - say nothing and the bollocks will disappear. As for placating the fans - if some idiots choose to boo him, it'll last for about 5 minutes until they get bored or until he beats his first man. Like most 'protests' it'll disappear faster than it began.

Sorry, what protest are we talking about? I think that's over-egging it. All I'm witnessing is diverse opinion as none of us know the truth. I find it naive however to assume that all is tickety-boo and above board at the moment.

What bollocks, it'll be in the papers etc regardless of any announcement from us as it's this year's champions trying to buy a big name player. There'll be rumours for months until he leaves in the summer.

I was referring to any hostility within the crowd as mentioned in a previous post.

The notion of the transfer might but the stories about his personal behaviour as a result will soon disappear if it isn't fed. It happens time and time again.

That assumes he will return and play like he has this season. If he comes back and plays like he did last season it could go on a little longer.

We're in probably the most boring season in history so anything he does will become news. If he farts on the pitch with the owners downwind then that's a more interesting tale than Manure getting within 20 points of top spot.

So something that hasn't happened. Speculation, as it were.
I think you need to read the rest of the thread properly. I was referring to someone else's speculation. Are you being deliberately obtuse?

Only yesterday people were making fun of the old 'Sky Sports News sources......' alluding they just make it up.

Now the same people are choosing to take the same as gospel just so they can throw their toys out of their pram and have a rant.

Un (but actually very) believable.

I think there will be far more to come for the papers to latch on to. They get bored pretty quickly if they aren't fed.

Do you believe that he missed our game yesterday then?
