Press release:

The EFL and the Club have reached an agreement to settle a dispute between them, arising out of the financial results of the Club in 2013/14.

The Club was deemed to have breached the EFL’s Championship Financial Fair Play Rules (“the Rules”) at the time, but proceedings were stayed pending the outcome of a legal challenge by Queens Park Rangers against those Rules. That challenge by Queens Park Rangers is on-going.

In reaching a settlement, the EFL acknowledges that the Club did not make any deliberate attempt to infringe the Rules or to deceive and that the dispute arose out of genuine differences of interpretation of the Rules between the parties. All relevant matters were taken into account when determining the quantum of the settlement.

The agreed settlement of £3,100,000 is in full and final settlement of all and any claims by the EFL against the Club and its officers, in respect of the FFP Regulations for season 2013/14.

No further details with regards to the settlement will be released.

Turns out you really can buy promotion, and that it's surprisingly cheap

We have squeezed through that one I think. I cannot see how the suppose shirt sponsorship deal was a genuine third party transaction. I am, however, glad to see it over and done with even though I would have hoped not to see it brought up again in my lifetime as it would mean that we have been relegated

“Genuine differences of interpretation”

In other words we found a loophole and exploited the shit out of it.

EFL get a little bit (in relative terms).

We get an acknowledgement that we didn’t break any rules (just bent them as far as possible).

Both sides hope it all goes away now.

Either way you look at this, it's a joke decision.

The FFP rules are stupid and, in my view, contrary to fair competition. If I were the owners, I would have challenged this case in court. It's a nonsense. This appeared to be the club position until recently too. Our last accounts commented as follows:

For some reason, we've done a 180 degree turn on this position. Possibly because the FL have offered us the deal we've decided to take when we've weighed this against likely legal fees and thought 'oh, go on then'.

If you do accept the FFP rules (as our club have now done), this fine is also ridiculous. Remember that we utterly fiddled things that season (see the attached for a simple summary: https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ball-league-financial-fair-play-investigation).

At the very least, and this is accepting our absurd accounting, we owe £13m. In reality, it is likely to be at least £30m. Our example to all other clubs is clear; it pays to flout the rules.

What a mess. The FL come out of this looking like spineless fools while we're either liars or incompetent or both.

It's like being sent to your room for being a little shit. Still get to play on your Mega Drive.

Do males or females get the final say here?

It would be incredibly naive to expect or anticipate a company to do anything in this position other than to maximise its profit and minimise its exposure.

We have done so very well imo.

So this is like a balance between two extremes. Almost as if it were a compromise of two opposing positions. What madness.

The size of the settlement suggests we were in a stronger position.

To be fair it's not like we're the only club that's done it. Bournemouth were find over £7m for the same thing in the following season, numerous Championship clubs have suffered transfer embargoes and if you ask me, Wolves will like either face one or the other depending whether they go up or not this season too. Not to mention the QPR fiasco that is still ongoing. Some clubs will chance it, a transfer embargo is hardly a big punishment if they don't go up and a £3-7m or so fine is nothing compared to the £100m pay day for reaching the Premier League.

What a load of old cock. The league have decided that it's unlikely they'll have any jurisdiction over us any time soon so have taken the token payment. Hard to have any real sympathy for them in all honesty.

Their incompetence, complacency & general two-bobbery are what led to the creation of the PL in the first place & resulted in them going from the dominant power in the English game to a pile of shite in no time flat.

At least if we get relegated next season we can give them two fingers the season after. Should probably have that as the new club badge actually.
