I thought it was a better performance. Southampton sat back and made it difficult. I am disappointed as I saw us getting a winner but we just couldn’t find the cutting edge.

I didn’t think anyone was particularly bad we just didn’click, lack of final ball and their crowded defence.

I hope they does this to Chelsea but with more success at the weekend.

Pretty much my thoughts. It was certainly better. Trouble is that goes to show how enormously shite we have been in the previous weeks. That game last night is the reason we are looking to bring in a manager who can get us playing possession football. In Ranieri's successful season we started to struggle against teams that sat back against us and were shown up for how one dimensional we were. Trouble is, Ranieri failed at making us less one dimensional and we don't seem to have made a great deal of progress in that respect since he was moved on.

Last night Southampton sat back all game which was incredibly poor from them given how desparately they needed the points. Pretty sure they'll go down after witnessing that in combination of how comically wasteful they were with some guilt edged opportunities they had. Looks like Southampton, West Brom and one from Stoke or Swansea..

To repeat what homer said, that didn’t happen. But regardless, that performance last night was hardly multi-dimensional.

Theee of whom we have failed to beat at home under this manager.

One other thing from last night: Claude Puel walked into the #lcfc dressing room at half time and said to the players: "That was the perfect first half." Players looked at each other, somewhat bewildered, and couldn't believe what they'd heard. And not for the first time either.

I think Bournemouth got a 0-0 doing precisely that (and they had a man sent off) when we had that catastrophic dip in form at Xmas/New Year 2015 (we lost to Liverpool).

Catastrophic dip in form?
The catastrophe was to lose at Anfield then?

Has the meaning of 'catastrophic' changed?

Obviously

As does 'struggle' and 'shown up to be one dimensional'

People make up their own history, regardless of how completely ludicrous it is

I think there is a method to the transition under Puel. Both wingers are tucking inside to try & link up with Ihenacho and Vardy - there were some good moves last night in the final third with more clinical decision making could've lead to a goal. What is expected is the fullbacks to overlap and use the space the wingers are vacating to get in crosses etc - Chilwell did this only a couple of times and delivery was poor; Albrighton played well but his most telling passes were from deep and over the top - you can see why Puel is after at least 1 new right back and a Fuchs replacement. What is patently obvious is some players are not up to this new system (Simpson for one). I think it's a big summer transfer window - who comes in to make this system and style work is probably more important than those who leave.

There were some positives - Dragovic was excellent and his passing and defending looks a step up on Morgan; Maguire had a solid game whilst Ndidi showed why he's crucial to the way we play. Vardy led from the front well and should've scored twice, Ihenacho looked sharp in his control and passing - he was also a little unlucky not to score; Hamer looked solid and made the one save he had to.

I am prepared to give Puel time - Matt Elliott on RL summed it up well in that the players have dropped off following the Cup QF defeat and all of them have one eye on next season/World Cup. Puel's an intelligent bloke, a manager with a good record - his style is a lot different to the counter attacking under Claudio but the most successful teams starve the opposition of the ball and it eventually will win more matches than you lose.

Finally on a completely seperate point - Southampton, in need of 3pts and with Leicester having nothing to play for, showed such limited ambition they deserve to go down - where was the gamble of 2 strikers with 30mins to go? Puel still looks a better bet than Mark Hughes.
Like this post Silly. I think you're right, transition has become a dirty word on here, but that's what, out of necessity, we're having to go through and it doesn't come without some pain. There are a number in the current squad (and we all know who) that won't suit what we'll hopefully become. The transfer window will be crucial and with the right additions and the right ones gone, we could be a very good side next year.
'Course if he gets the recruitment wrong, he's toast.

Does anyone have any faith in our recruitment in terms of being able to bring about wholesale changes successfully?

The odd signing has been good but the overwhelming majority over the last 2 seasons have been apalling.

You have just described the bane of my life.

The season after we won the Premier League the signings were appalling - Mendy Musa Slimani and the Polish winger whose name I have forgotten. I would make an exception of Leicester's forgotten man Daniel Amartey of whom I have high hopes.
However, since then we have signed Maguire, and Ndidi who have been excellent. Damari seems to have great potential Dragovic and Diabate are not appalling. Silva and Kalechi have had some good moments but not enough to justify their fees - but this may come.

Not being at the match I will comment on the performance. However, the performance against Newcastle was so bad I have reluctantly lost my support for Puel.

You’re an imposter! No way our Mr.Gilliam would misspell the names of so many players in one single post.

Lako that is the crux of the matter if Puel is transitioning the team to a new style of football will he get the type of player he wants? We blew it after winning the title with utter shite being recruited
