Puel out

I'm delighted that Shakespeare has gone because he isn't, and never will be, a manager. I think we'd have gone down if we'd kept him all season.

We have as a minimum now got a manager in charge which is a step up. Had we kept Appleton, I'd be feeling that though. Just having someone in charge with some authority.

My reservations with Puel are not about him as a manager. He appears to be perfectly capable and experienced. I just cannot comprehend how he fits with our club/players/mentality. He's all about slow, possession football. He doesn't play wide players as wide players. He is in favour of constant rotation of personnel. Many of our players just won't like any of that and that's playing right into the hands of the same problems that have hounded us for the last year or so.

Recruiting him means major changes in personnel, formation and style of play. That's fine but it could well be a rocky road for him. Someone like Albrighton won't fit his plans at all. Neither will Morgan or Huth. Or Okazaki. Or Slimani. And quite a few more. Ironically, it was against Puel's favoured diamond formation that Ranieri attempted to get his side to match up and we should never forget that particular horror show.

He may be excellent for the likes of Chilwell, Mahrez, Iborra, Iheanacho. He'll probably convert Gray to a striker and may bring Musa in from the cold in the same position. Good luck to him though when he tries to explain to Vardy why he's being benched as part of his rotation policy.

In summary, I see him creating some havoc in the short term and it will either lead to overall progress and improvement or it will be a complete disaster. If I were to guess on what's most likely, I'd say the latter.

This is a good post.

What’s criminal is people like you excusing Mahrez and others putting in halfarsed performances

Great, let’s sack 18 players instead.

There's some interesting gossip around twitter and the other forums. I'm putting 2+2 together from this in the following and adding a touch of my own personal desperation.

Seems like some people that know people are saying that a change is now inevitable. Vichai is not happy. Too many poor performances at home, too many gaps appearing in the stands. No signs of progress.

The reaction of the players makes a big difference too and. like it or not, the owners trust our senior players. Puel has very few friends in the changing room or training ground.

Our pool of potential new managers was a small one in October as we wanted someone that would work with Appleton and accept Macia being in charge of new signings. Vichai was surprised when better candidates scoffed at that deal.

Looks like Macia is on his way (to West Ham) and Appleton will be going too (touting himself around for a managers job at Championship level).

That leaves the path clear for someone to come in and do the job their way. So our options are much better.

I'm choosing to live in this dreamland from now on so feck Puel and his shitty football philosophy. Four more games and the pain will be over . . .

Another spin.

Ranieri tried to adapt the system and failed as players failed to understand or were simply unable to adapt to it and therefore gave up.

Shakey was clearly an imbecile in management terms and doomed to fail, he tried a few marginal changes and failed, resorting to the original Ranieri up-and-at-em, front to back at pace blueprint.

Puel is trying to do what Ranieri did post THAT season and no doubt it is currently ugly to watch and too slow, but we do need to change.

We need to stick with Puel and give him the close season to buy in players who fit his philosophy and let go of the ones that don’t or won’t.

If we get in another manager now (and the least danger we are facing with that is that we will be rightly or wrongly perceived as a club that doesn’t stick with the manager and backs the players) then we are more than likely to repeat this scenario many times until a manager is allowed to follow through his philosophy.

I find it impossible to believe that Puel sees his final team playing as we are now, anyone who believes this is the case is clearly deluded.

The more I think about it the more I believe Puel has it read correctly.

All this nonsense about Vardy leaving has no substance behind it and once again he is a goal scorer now with 20 goals in each of his last three seasons, so guess what - maybe he is happy, shock, horror?

Boom and bust is exactly that, be careful what you wish for.

p.s. Geoff Peters is an annoying and lying shitbag who will use whatever information, sorry snippet of info and will twist it to suit his own mantra.

I trust him as much as I trust Donald Trump.

Unusual for you to be so critical of other forum members in this manner!

Yup. I think too many are whining shit bags who'd happily risk our Premier League status when there is no need. Success usually comes from stability so it's madness to get rid while we have the luxury of being able to be patient. Give him into next season at least. I'd like to see if he can replicate the success he had in France...

I can only assume that those who want to give Puel longer don’t give up their Saturday afternoons and hard earned cash to sit and be bored watching that painful, hopeless tripe.

Funny that nobody was saying any of this when Ranieri was here

He was a stupid dobber for trying to change a 'winning formula' . What was he doing, the stupid feck - stick with the style of football that suits the players you have, don't change the players approach to the game towards a new style you want to lay when they clearly can't do it.

Sack him the silly old sod

Agreed, but there were a few of us who advocated sticking with CR.

So, those of us who are unable to attend games as regularly as you have a less valid point?

I assume though that we ALL want our club to succeed but see a different path in getting there.

I certainly was. The style of play stopped working when other teams understood how to confound it. He tried to change the style and some of the personne...

This is all old ground. It's really unnecessary to go over it again.

I think we're still owed a critique of the nuances of the Ranieri boo, though.

I’m pleased you can remember...

That’s not what I said.

But if I didn’t go I really wouldn’t be bothered about us being an entertaining side - I’d be more results focussed.
