Puel out

Big challenge for the owners is to find a decent manager who will come to Leicester.

I know this has been said many, many times now, but why do some people on this forum seem to think that we are a poison chalice as a club?

We have a good squad, an excellent investment track and don’t have mad owners who sack everyone at the first drop of a hat.
When was the last time Top and Vichai fired someone and we all said “That was very unfair?”

Never.
Well - maybe Pearson first time when we brought in Sousa.

Yes it will need a manager with a strong mentality to implement his own style, but this Puel experience shows that whoever does come in is best to do what ranieri did so well in his first season - play to the strengths of the squad.

So Percy has confirmed what I've been saying.

Incredibly, the players have been placed in a ludicrous position. Hang your head in shame Rudkin.

They have to play shit to ensure that the correct decision is made at the end of the season.

A poor performance and result against Palace is the only positive thing the players and any right minded fan can hope for.

We should get rid now and give Appleton the last four games to see if he could be a contender for the job.

If this happens I think Rudkin's position has to come into question, player recruitment has been sketchy over the last 3 seasons to say the least and the strategy of the club appears to be all over the place and a 3rd change of manager in less than 18 months must surely raise question marks over Rudkin and his ability to lead a club of our size and ambition as Director of Football.

For me if Puel goes he has to leave with him.

But a new manager wouldn't come from this forum; I presume that we're all hoping that BN does not apply. He would come from the more general football world. Have you spoken to anybody from the more general football world? They do think we are a poison chalice.

Again, we're not talking about 'we all'. The whole of the football world was askance when Ranieri was sacked. Three managers sacked in less than two seasons is poison chalice territory in anybody's book.

Totally agree with Boc, if Ranieri couldn’t hold down his job what would it take for someone to be given the length of their contract?

He’s the most clued up journo when it comes to us

He hasn't actually said anything that can't be easily presumed.

Managers really don’t care as they’ll still get another job. Being a football manager must be the one job where you can be publically rubbish but still get another job easily.

A “poison chalice” would be tempting surely. They’ll get paid handsomely, get a nice chunky pay off when we sack them, and then they’ll get another job straight away.

Agree with all that.

All the sackings have been well justified. The Ranieri case is the only one that saddened me. In his first season Ranieri played it right hinting (after the Newcastle home game) that his squad was better than he had thought and the success level was unbelievable. In his second season he reverted to type and messed about with selection and tactics leading to his undoing. Shakespeare was just in a job too far and Puel has very quickly alienated a lot of people..

Puel is pretty much a spent force now, but finding a replacement would'nt be easy.

I have thought for a long term the lunatics are running the asylum at the King Power, knowing that they can force the removal of any manager who they don’t like or want.

For the long term benefit of the club, regardless of what happens with the manager, the most important change I would like to see this summer is a major squad overhaul, especially of the senior players, which thankfully if the rumours are to be believed we will see.

I loved watching players like Schmeichel, Fuchs, Morgan, Albrighton, Simpson and James (Huth is obviously leaving anyway) a few seasons back but they need to move on now they are holding the club back.

On the record of our loyalty to managers.
Pearson's first sacking,
Sven's sacking when 2 points off the playoffs
And Ranieri's sacking could all be seen as unreasonable by other managers, especially if they are unfamiliar with the contexts of those decisions.

That said the deciding factor for any potential new manager will be money. How much we pay him, and I think any new manager will want a large transfer kitty if he is expected to be challenging for Europe.

Emery would be excellent if he could be persuaded, Benitez if he is still unhappy. Other realistic possibilities are uninspiring (I'm sure there are other exciting prospects that i am unaware of) and personally I would prefer to allow Puel to continue, than hire a proven failure or average manager from the merry-go-round.
