I suspect that the identity of the new manager is of little importance while we have a squad that is so reluctant to adapt. The recruitment of players for the new season is of far greater importance. And ffs get rid of the dead wood that is holding us back.

Most of the players have spent the last few months diligently trying to adapt to a playing style that does not suit them. This boring narrative about them being inflexible and rabble rousing is just wrong.

There is little wrong with this squad. It needs some work but nothing dramatic.

Ranieri ****ed up in his second season as he has done repeatedly. Then the owners have ****ed up twice giving the gig to Shakespeare (permanently) and then Puel. It's no more complicated than that.

Absolutely spot on.

I would agree with this. A squad overhaul is long overdue. Sure, Puel's selections, tactics and style should obviously be questioned, but it's player recruitment that has been the major problem since winning the title. Even if we were still playing a more direct, counter attacking style, I doubt the results would be that much better (but at least the games would more watchable). The players brought in since 15/16 just aren't/haven't been good enough and those that remained have been on the decline. I think better managers than Ranieri, Shakespeare and Puel would also have struggled with this squad. As the great NFL coach Bill Parcells once said, "This is a talent acquisition business.".

As above. This squad have not become crap in a few months. They still possess skills as a team. It was under Puel 4 months ago that we went to Southampton and tonked them with a great team and individual display.

Why will Puel not play to his current strengths, instead of playing them out of position, or asking them to play in. An unfamiliar style?

Surely he has tried this on the training ground first? Why the feck does he think Albrighton is a RB?

I am sorry, but I was in the Give Puel a Chance camp, but not after today. These are not bad players, but Puel has clearly lost the dressing room, so must go.

Marco Silva... out of work Premier League experince, has worked with several of our squad eg Maguire Siva Slimani

"Siva is everything: He is the root and support of the universe; He is the creative-destructive flow of life that rushes through it. He is motion and calm, male and female, light and dark, ascetic and lover, everything and its opposite. Siva is an ambiguous God who embodies, defines and reconciles within Himself all of life's processes and paradoxes. Siva is existence. He embodies the structure of the universe."

Get Him in!

From the always reliable Daily Star:

LEICESTER CITY are lining up a summer swoop to bring Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez to the King Power Stadium.

The future of current Foxes manager Claude Puel is in serious doubt following reports of dressing room unrest – and their 5-0 hammering by Crystal Palace.

Spaniard Benitez, 58, has been hailed as a hero for keeping the Magpies in the Premier League this season, despite operating on a shoestring budget.

But though the Toon fans love him – and he is keen to stay at St James’ Park – Benitez said last week he needs greater financial clout in the transfer market.

And with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley still trying to sell the club, it could be hard for Benitez to turn down a move to the ambitious Foxes.

Ashley wants a reported £350m to let Newcastle go – but with offers of that size thin on the ground, Benitez is currently in limbo as to his future.

That leaves the door open for Leicester to enter the race for the ex-Liverpool, Valencia, Inter and Real Madrid coach.

Leicester’s Thai owners, having seen the club lift the Premier League in 2016, now want regular top-six finishes.

They are renowned for being ruthless, having sacked title-winner Claudio Ranieri and his replacement Craig Shakespeare.

Although Puel had a decent start at the King Power, the last couple of months have been fraught with growing tension among the squad.

Benitez or Wagner for me. Wenger or Emery would be great but I can’t see it happening.

I know it’ll divide opinion, but I wouldn’t be too surprised to see the return of Pee Stain if we can’t get any of the above. Wouldn’t be my first choice but I sure as hell would prefer him to the likes of Allardyce/Pardew.

I totally agree, would not be the least bit surprised to see the return of Pearson, and given the position of Walsh and Shakey at Everton, maybe the band could get back together.

What about Conte?

most of the players can not adapt that is why Ranieri struggled the same with Puel

Not sure where to turn, but certainly something radical is required. 9 points from 8 games, mainly against lower teams doesn't look good. Team or Manager?
Some players need to be and should have been already offloaded, do to not really being up to standard, ie Morgan, Albrighton, Chilwell, Gray, Simpson.
The new signings must be thoroughly pissed off (with the exception of Maguire and Ndid). Why have we bought so many with seemingly no intention of playing them?
The problem in the dressing room since Claudio seems to be still unresolved. Are there big name, undropable troublemakers, Schmeical, Vardy or Mahrez?
These issues need sorting, finding the right manager will not be easy. CR, CS and CP were all unable to build on our season.
Benitez is possibly the best choice for me, but he needs to bring a whole new management team with him, aas will any new manager. Continuity and keeping existing staff seems to
have been a failure, and also possibly contributed to the general malaise in the club.

I've reviewed the current names and I can't say that many are enticing.
  • Rodgers is not someone that I've ever rated or liked. He strikes me as someone that has an inflated opinion of himself and his talents. He's alright but not someone I'd want to back with our future. He'd be a gamble that I don't think we need to take. A manager with an ego bigger than any of our players isn't likely to end well.
  • Benitez appears to be flavour of the month. I don't share this view. He's a tactician and someone that makes the best of what he's got. These attributes are to his credit. I just think he's pretty dour and negative. If we want to mess with the top six, we have to do it by messing with them, not playing a similar but slightly inferior version of their football.
  • Wenger is genuinely being talked about I see. I don't see it as either feasible or desirable. He's been finished as a manager for the last decade. Why on earth would we want a doddery old man who barely knows what year it is in charge?
  • Wagner is well thought of within the club according to accounts. He's the man they wanted last summer whilst they faffed about before giving it to Shakespeare. On the plus side, he moulds teams and gets a strong connection between players and fans. He's done an excellent job at Huddersfield. However, they are deadly dull to watch aren't they? The most boring team in the league - and that's a competitive prize. He's not quite good enough for me.
  • Silva is a talented coach. He's got a lot of attributes that appeal to me. But for a mis-step in wanting the Everton move so soon after arriving at Watford, he'd be very highly regarded I reckon. Young, ambitious and makes players better. A definite option.
  • Dyche would be both a safe pair of hands and a gamble at the same time. It's a weird one. He's a bit like Pearson only better. He'd build a strong defence. He'd get the players onside. I cannot decide whether it would be a really good fit or a really bad one. He'd be on my shortlist though.
Over and above any of this lot, I'd definitely have a go for Emery. He's just ideal for us, and us him, I think. Fonseca is also worth serious consideration. I still also like Mancini. If we fail there, I'd go with Silva.

My shortlist in order of preference:
  1. Emery
  2. Fonseca
  3. Mancini
  4. Silva
  5. Dyche
