Fact; if we were to concede five in every away game, or concede more than we score (however many that may be), we would lose more than we would win.

Clearly. But we don't play a rampant Tottering every week.

Two home games against a team fighting relegation and a team who hadn’t got an away point all year?
For each game they played, they got closer to their first away win of the year. Would have had a better chance of beating them in January. Conclusion: extremely strong win!

Whether we choose to sack Puel or keep him, either way it's a gamble. He could make a few signings, have a pre-season with the squad and hit the ground running with attacking, passing football (as was the case at the start of his reign, and the last two games). Or he could continue playing the terribly boring shite we've been watching for most of the year.

I suppose my point is, despite the sarcastic and condescending nature of some of the posts on this thread (mostly from Puel Out-ers towards Puel In-ers), it's not actually that clear cut and no one knows what's going to happen any more than the next person. Everyone's got an opinion and a good debate is what this forum's for, but there's no need to be a dick about it.

I've reviewed the current names and I can't say that many are enticing.
  • Rodgers is not someone that I've ever rated or liked. He strikes me as someone that has an inflated opinion of himself and his talents. He's alright but not someone I'd want to back with our future. He'd be a gamble that I don't think we need to take. A manager with an ego bigger than any of our players isn't likely to end well.
  • Benitez appears to be flavour of the month. I don't share this view. He's a tactician and someone that makes the best of what he's got. These attributes are to his credit. I just think he's pretty dour and negative. If we want to mess with the top six, we have to do it by messing with them, not playing a similar but slightly inferior version of their football.
  • Wenger is genuinely being talked about I see. I don't see it as either feasible or desirable. He's been finished as a manager for the last decade. Why on earth would we want a doddery old man who barely knows what year it is in charge?
  • Wagner is well thought of within the club according to accounts. He's the man they wanted last summer whilst they faffed about before giving it to Shakespeare. On the plus side, he moulds teams and gets a strong connection between players and fans. He's done an excellent job at Huddersfield. However, they are deadly dull to watch aren't they? The most boring team in the league - and that's a competitive prize. He's not quite good enough for me.
  • Silva is a talented coach. He's got a lot of attributes that appeal to me. But for a mis-step in wanting the Everton move so soon after arriving at Watford, he'd be very highly regarded I reckon. Young, ambitious and makes players better. A definite option.
  • Dyche would be both a safe pair of hands and a gamble at the same time. It's a weird one. He's a bit like Pearson only better. He'd build a strong defence. He'd get the players onside. I cannot decide whether it would be a really good fit or a really bad one. He'd be on my shortlist though.
Over and above any of this lot, I'd definitely have a go for Emery. He's just ideal for us, and us him, I think. Fonseca is also worth serious consideration. I still also like Mancini. If we fail there, I'd go with Silva.

My shortlist in order of preference:
  1. Emery
  2. Fonseca
  3. Mancini
  4. Silva
  5. Dyche

“Arsenal are set to appoint Unai Emery as their new manager.”

its probably people scamming the bookies like when Pearson had been sacked, lumping money on, odds crash and cash out for a profit, that's why there was a new favourite for the job seemingly every day

Eh ?

How does that work, then ?
if a bunch of people put a decent amount of money on someone to become the new manager, bookies react and change the odds, most also offer cashout now to tempt people to take less money but still more than they put on, mainly a thing in in play betting on matches but also on other bets, thus they make money for nothing

They do cash out on next manager odds ?

Are you sure ?
