The Mahrez Saga

Either way £53m is undervalued for Riyad Mahrez. Hopefully they show a little more respect or another team comes in. With Arsenal having a new manager and Liverpool potentially interested I don't see that being necessarily improbable.

If the post by Blaarev is correct, it's not £53 million for Mahrez. It's £53 million plus Roberts.

For me, and again it is just me, I think £60m + Roberts (if he's valued by us at £15m) would the minimum to accept.

I do wonder if we're actually into Roberts or if it's just paper talk. Then I also wonder if we sign Maddison, would we still be going in for another midfielder like Roberts. Are they similar?

Maddison is a number 10. Roberts plays mainly on the right wing.

I do wonder if Roberts is even close to replacing Mahrez. It looks like we're spreading the task of the missing Mahrez goals/assists/flair across the team rather than just a single replacement if we sign both Roberts and Maddison.

Unless Mahrez stays..........................

I am quite sure if Messi said he wanted to play in England, Man City would just ask how many noughts and sign the cheque. I am glad we are not just rolling over on this one and being grateful for any crumbs that drop our way.

We could keep him, just saying.

We could keep him, just saying.

Absolutely, and I wish we could. Whilst Mahrez has, mostly, remained professional over the last 18 months, rightly or wrongly he believes his career will reach new heights elsewhere, and believes he has reached the limit of his development with Leicester.

I do not think he is more likely to be picked for Algeria if he is playing for Man City or Barcelona. Almost certainly he will get less pitch time, as he will be an 'option', not necessarily first pick on the team sheet.

Personally I do not think the fans of any team in Europe will heap more praise and love on him than we have. More money yes, but he already has more money than he 'needs'. I will always be grateful that I was able to watch a genuine football genius play in our Royal Blue, even if he lacks the consistency of Messi or Ronaldo.

Drinkwater thought the grass was greener at Chelsea. His career has certainly blossomed there hasn't it?
