It really is. I've never seen such one-eyed, unsophisticated analysis of a footballer's performance, and that's including the obsessive, dull-witted criticism of Andy King over the last ten years. Just because it's England, not every shot has to go in, not every pass has to be inch perfect. Some decisions players make won't be right, such as not passing to Kane on the edge of the box. There are a thousand others who could have played in Sterling's place today but not one of them half as well for half as long. He could score a hat trick in the final and a thousand overweight, hungover Sunday league players will still be hammering him on Twatter for not scoring a fourth.
England fans are the ****ing worst.

The fact that I did not rate Sterlings performance yesterday does not make me childish.

He stretched the play, which opens up other spaces for other players. He may have fecked up when it came to finishing his chances, but his presence helped the team.
