Couldn't agree more. The performance tonight was a mile away from the dross at the back end of last season. Far more intent and much more entertaining to watch.
 
In fairness, I didn't see that - when home will watch the whole game which was recorded.

Or I was watching the right team last season and had the right game on tonight and think you’re wrong.

It’s hard to judge because we faced much stronger opponents tonight. Some things were good and we certainly moved the ball faster through the first two thirds of the pitch than we did last season, but we also only created one good chance and I never felt we were going to score. We were neat and tidy but very slow around their penalty box, often waiting too long to play a ball into dangerous areas.

Based on tonight alone we are not even close to being creative enough but, as I said previously, I’ll wait until we’ve played weaker sides to make a firm judgement. Not that last season gets wiped from my mind. Puel has plenty of work to do until I have any faith in him to put together a side capable of entertaining. I’m impressed with his work in the transfer window but remain to be convinced that he’ll be brave enough to use our attacking players properly. I hope he does convince me; I get nothing from being bored watching football matches.
 
A fully fit Vardy ahead of Maddison will be great

The interplay between Gray, Chilwell and Maddison will open up a lot is sides this season
 
Our passing was on point.

Maddison was excellent. Ricardo even better I'd say.
Maguire, Kasper, Ndidi all assured and Iheanacho was definitely lively as was Chillwell.

Amartey was pretty bad. If you're playing Ricardo as a winger then surely to God you'd play Simpson who IMO is very good at defending.

Iheanacho will score plenty this season, he just needs the service and a run in the team.

I'd play the following vs Wolves:

Kasper
Maguire Morgan Evans
Ricardo Maddison N'Didi Silva Gray
Iheanacho Vardy
 
Never want to lose but let's not get too disappointed about this result. Positives were the new players especially Ricardo and Maddison - but please let's not play Amartey again in that position when we have options - he is a squad player at best. I am excited to see this young team develop and Wolves next week should be a cracking match. I am not sure what the negative comments about Ghezzal are all about - I thought he showed some promise when we came on. Big question to be answered - can Vardy and Iheanacho play together ?
 
Some comments on here demonstrate the exact opposite to what Ghezzal needs.

He came on for a grand total of about 25 minutes for his first appearance for the club in a Premier League opener against Man Utd at Old Trafford whilst we were losing. What was everyone expecting?? He is not a Mahrez replacement at least not yet and if he is intended to be then he needs plenty of time just to get used to the physicality and pace of the game.

Apart from the result I don't see how anyone can be unhappy with that performance. We were superior to them in our passing, movement and shape. We had a number of chances that just didn't land for us exactly how we wanted to, I remember two for Iheanacho, a great saved shot by Madison, a Vardy goal and a Vardy miss at the end.

We'll do well this season if we play like that more often than not and convert our chances. Give the team some time to get competitive action with each other.

It's probable that we're going to be changing to a back three as time goes on and with Vardy and Maguire, two of our backbone players having only trained a few days it will take a little time to get going.

This will take some time. That's that.

Can I just check which one good chance you're talking about?
  • The one we scored from?
  • Vardy's fluffed volley?
  • Maddison's turn and shot that forced a great save from De Gea in the first half?
  • The penalty we should've had when Bailly fouled Iheanacho in the second half?
  • The shot Gray had saved after Vardy won the ball from Shaw on the wing?

Or a different only one good chance? Because they all seemed pretty good ones to me.
 
He was clearly talking about the Schmeichal header at the end.

ManYoo were completely feckin shite and we should have taken advantage. We were incapable of doing so, and that is poor
 
For once I agree Homer. It seems we are happy to accept defeat simply because it's Man U. Had that been, for example, Everton, the verdict would have been less sympathetic.

I'm looking at the overall picture which includes the fact that it was our 1st game of the season and possibly the 1st time a lot of the players had featured together.

I saw enough in the performance to see past one result and simply call it 'poor'

Whatever you say about Utd's performance, they defended soundly and it was very difficult to unlock them, It's not like we will be the only team that struggle with that this season.


Happy to see a change, that's really all I was looking for.
 
It's started already. Manchester United are 'complete shite'. Utter ****ing madness. Is it the same kind of 'shite' we were told Manchester City were all season last year when they won the league at a canter smashing a plethora of records on the way? It seems since winning the league that every team we play is 'shite' or 'there for the taking'.


They're not 'shite'. They finished as league runners-up last year on 81 points, as many as we got when we won the title. They may be frustrating and play a brand of football that is ****ing dull as dishwater but they are in no way 'shite'. The perspective of some on here really needs adjusting.
 
Our build up play was superb at times, but then when we got to the penalty area there was typically no one in the box, and on the odd occasion there was, the ball was poor.

For me, Nacho’s best position is as a number 10 behind Vardy. But clearly he has Maddison to compete with. I’d still like to see Nacho play alongside Vardy with Maddison behind, particularly against some of the weaker opposition at home.

The right back situation concerns me. I thought we had brought in a new right back to give Simpson the competition he hasn’t had for 3 years and then we can finally bin off Amartey. But no, our new right back played on the right wing (and did very well I might add), we have binned off Simpson, and now seemingly have Amartey as our first choice right back. If Puel sees Pereira as more of an attacking winger, we’re still lacking at right back. Simpson has to start over (brain) am-fartey.

Maddison looked good but needs to muscle up a bit as he was outmuscled and lost the ball in a threatening position on more than one occasion. Looks threatening though.

All in all it was a promising start.

A very fair assessment CF. I thought we were a breath of fresh air to watch and as that team gel together the prospect is mouthwatering.

The only thing lacking (bar a brain cell for Amartey) was someone with the killer pass between the halfway line and the edge of their box.

If we can sort that out we will be formidable opponents.
