I think the defender has to take a portion of the blame there.
And that portion should be the whole. The first thing defenders are coached about backpasses is to make sure they’re missing the goal. The same applies to throw backs, and considering that the defender is under absolutely no pressure it’s inexcusable. Look how RonRob has made himself available, well away from the goalmouth. He should be furious with that defender

Perhaps also it's a good idea to wait until the keeper has finished pulling his socks up and is actually aware of what's going on before throwing the ball to him. Just a thought :102:

Did Ronny Bob actually get a touch on that? If not, the Schiedsrichter has cocked up. You can't score direct from a throw-in and the correct decision would have been to award a corner.

The video shows that he throws his foot at it, in which case the Torwart has cocked up and is arguably 100% at fault. The throw-in isn’t great but R-RZ didn’t have to turn it into an own goal.

They have VAR surely they checked to make sure he’d touched it

I think he went to kick it because he'd been too busy admiring his socks to have a clue what was going on. Another player may have kicked the ball for all he knows.

...

Throwing a foot at it and actually kicking it are two different things. It looks to me as if he did the former and not the latter. One way or another though, it's cock-ups-r-us.

Loved it when they signed him for that money.

He was absolute dog shit for us after the title win and his attitude always seemed strange.

Hope to **** that we aren't back in for him

I agree about his attitude and he definitely either seemed to have hit or miss spells with us.

But let’s not forget he was our standout player for the first half of 16/17 until he had his injury. He was the one shining light in a team of players who really couldn’t be arsed.

I recall Nigel Pearson once said that Danny Drinkwater was a complex character, which has always rung true to me. I think missing out on Euro 2016 to Wiltshire had a big impact on him, hence refusing the England call up later and his many 'injuries' for England squads immediately afterwards. I also expect it was a factor in his desire to go to Chelsea - despite any rational person being able to see it was a dud move from a mile away, I think he felt playing first team for Leicester was equal to being in the rotation for Chelsea.

In contrast to the feeling that we didn't get the transfer fee that we should have, with regards in particular to Kante and Mahrez, the Drinkwater transfer certainly felt that we got the better side of it, even at the time.
