New ex-players (and managers) thread

I thought he was our best player for the first half of the season after we won the league. Maybe thats just me.
It isn't just you, it's everybody else who isn't making up complete bollocks and passing it off as fact. He was excellent before his injury, our best player by a mile but after he got crocked he didn't look the same. I'd have him back in a heartbeat over the likes of a consistently appalling Silva and a 1 in 5 player like Iborra.

I think he's probably on the same path as Scott Sinclair and all those other 'big money players' who thought that the grass might be greener now, however.

Can’t blame him for taking the big money move or backing his ability. It’s not his fault the club forked out such a ludicrous amount of money and he can certainly be forgiven for thinking he might have been part of their plans after they did so. Absolutely everybody else knew he just wasn't up to the same standard as the rest of the squad.

He was a reliable and very effective player for us for several years and played a huge part in some important moments. I don’t subscribe to the idea that loyalty has a great deal of value in football, so I couldn’t give a shit how or why he left and won’t take any pleasure in his career shitting itself, but I think it will. My guess is he’ll either end up playing for Celtic and nabbing a barrelful of chocolate coins or see out his contract then gradually drift down the leagues until he retires. Either way, Chelsea Football Club are largely to blame.

In contrast to the feeling that we didn't get the transfer fee that we should have, with regards in particular to Kante and Mahrez, the Drinkwater transfer certainly felt that we got the better side of it, even at the time.

You could say that we got Silva and £8m for Drinkwater which is effectively what the deal worked out as. We only signed Silva because Drinkwater left.

Even though I was very critical of Drinkwater at times, I don't see that as a good deal for us at all. I'd much rather we still had Drinkwater and £8m less than be stuck with Silva who is proving to be a horrific waste of money.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see a reverse of both deals take place in January or next summer. Both players have made terrible moves and were much better off where they were.

I totally agree that we got royally screwed over with both the Kante and Mahrez sales.

Had he stayed, I don't think that Stan Dingwater would be regular first team player with us these days under Puel.

A good amount of money made in this case.

I like to think of the Drinkwater deal as being the second instalment for Kante and assume Silva's value was based on appearances where he looks decent. Much better that way.

You could look at it that way. I was just looking at each deal in isolation. We overpaid for Silva.

He was. By a mile, I think.

But then he pissed me off more than most of the rest of them after that because I felt like he gave up. I felt like others were trying and it just wasn't working. I felt Drinky got fed up and stopped trying.

I think he has big attitude problems personally.

Thanks for what he did here, but more than others his attitude left a sour taste in my mouth and I wouldn't be keen to have him back, because I think he won't come back from not playing for the last year and a half.

I am sure I have mentioned it before but for the latter half of the season he was carrying a hip flexor injury and he couldn't reach the same levels of performance.

Serves him right for matching on tinder with a girl I was trying to hit on.

****.

Kevin MacDonald is back in as caretaker boss at Villa.

Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemenceau are among the coaches who have left with Bruce.

Mahrez starts against Liverpool

He'll never get into that team, especially in the big games....

Mahrez has been absolutely terrible so far. It's so awful to watch. It's Mahrez though - he could still win them this game.
