Leicester City fans will be invited to pay tribute to the Club’s late Chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, during Saturday’s Premier League game against Burnley.
The Premier League fixture is the Foxes’ first home game since the tragic events of 27 October, in which five people, including Khun Vichai, lost their lives in a helicopter accident outside King Power Stadium.
And those lives will be remembered in front of a capacity crowd on Filbert Way this Saturday, as the Club once more unites in tribute.
A special ‘Tribute to Khun Vichai’ video will be shown on the big screens at 2:45pm prior to our 3pm kick-off and fans will receive gifts of commemorative scarves, pin badges, clap banners and souvenir matchday programmes in honour of the Club’s late Chairman.
Supporters are advised to take their seats at latest by 2:35pm.
The Club is also aware of a significant supporter tribute march from Jubilee Square to King Power Stadium shortly after midday and advises all supporters to leave additional time for their journey, as this is expected to impact traffic in the city centre around Upperton Road, Raw Dykes Road and Western Boulevard. Road closures will be in place as the march passes through. Current guidelines are that road closures may be in place two hours prior to Kick off. National Rail engineering works will also be in place between Leicester and Bedford.
The game against Burnley has also been selected as the Club’s annual Remembrance Fixture – 2018 being the centenary year to commemorate the sacrifices of servicemen and women in conflicts past and present.
A two-minute silence will be observed before the game to honour those sacrifices as well as the five lives lost at King Power Stadium, with supporters encouraged to raise their scarves during the silence. At half-time, veterans and Armed Forces personnel will parade around the pitch. Donations will be accepted around the ground for the Royal British Legion – a cause for which City’s Remembrance Fixtures have raised £250,000 in recent years.
Tribute t-shirts will be worn by the players during their warm-up and Khun Vichai’s name will be embroidered on the team’s match shirts during the first half. The second half shirts will bear the embroidered poppy symbol - a tradition proudly started by Leicester City in 2003.
The book of condolence will be relocated to Car Park E until Friday 16 November, after which it will be in the same location on matchdays for the foreseeable future.
Condolence books will be available in all hospitality areas on the matchday.
Ahead of the game, tributes left outside the stadium will be relocated to a designated memorial area on Car Park E close to the accident site, where supporters are requested to leave any additional tributes on Saturday. A selection of material tributes will also be placed around the King Power Stadium pitch for the fixture.
In a further mark of respect to the Football Club’s late Chairman, King Power Stadium will display two large commemorative banners outside the North Stand, while a flag will be held aloft by the East Stand as the players enter the pitch.
Supporters are strongly advised to allow plenty of time for their journey to the stadium to ensure a prompt arrival at latest by 2:35 pm and to give everyone the opportunity to take part in what the Club hopes will be a fitting tribute to our late Chairman.
