Predictable Puel. We were so much better at the end of the game when the game plan had gone out of the window and we just played with freedom. Speaks volumes for Puels tactics.

A performance like that shows why you have to dominate and win against teams like Fulham, Burnley, West Ham, etc
we were bloody useless, thank god Spurs couldn't be arsed to completely shaft us.

So many underlying issues with the football being produced.

Vardy is a marginalized and frustrated figure and without him the team looks completely toothless. He is the clubs biggest asset and the style of football nullifies his threat. When he doesn’t play we are completely ****ed. When he does he’s rarely used effectively.

There is no consistency in team selection. Players can play well and be dropped completely the next game. Others get chances they’ve done nothing to earn. This can’t be helping the players. Puel consistently makes 4-5 changes a game. This will be dismissed as squad rotation around the holiday period but he’s done it from the beginning.

And then when those changes invariably fail Puel is forced to make substitutions that lead to changes of shape and formation in game. It’s often difficult to tell by the end of the game what the plan is.

Very few players, bar Chilwell (who was always going to kick on) seem to have improved. Ndidi, Vardy, Gray, Iheanacho actually seem to be going backwards. None of the promising younger players are actually making a breakthrough.

We offer little resistance to the big 6 when they face them. Happy to play well and lose. We are often beaten before kickoff against the big clubs because we just play the same style with less talented players. In short, we are a soft touch.

I get the sense Puel cares more about proving a point or implementing his style than he does winning. And there is enough talent and resources at the club to finish 6th. He’s not interested in that.

And above all; it’s boring which is the absolute anthesis of this club. City are in no danger of getting relegated but we are quickly becoming anonymous under Puel. An average team, playing dishwater dull football built to eventually sell on their biggest assets.

Sooner we can put this season behind us the better.

‘Mauricio couldn’t have dreamed for an easier game’ says Jenas.

Why, if the initial game plan is to catch them with early passes in behind, would you drop Albrighton? He set a goal up in exactly that way in the last home game.

Why leave Iheanacho so isolated up front when he’s been so hopeless for so long?

The play got slower and more laboured the deeper Spurs dropped. They only needed to try for about 20 minutes, pretty much the easiest away day they could hope for, especially when they rested their star players.

It was just a jumble of players at the end, no game management whatsoever. Proper teams rehearse what they’ll do when they go a goal down, two down, red card etc. We ended with Albrighton, Gray, Okazaki, Maddison and Ghezzal just bumbling about.

It’s painful watching us play against decent sides, especially because the play doesn’t generate any atmosphere in the ground. It’s like watching a practice game.

Can you imagine only a couple of years back City fans leaving early? Today, I think I would have been amongst them. With about 15 minutes to go, I asked my missus if she was watching anything remotely interesting on the TV.

( Wait for 'so called fan' etc., etc., comment)

I'm sure there will be plenty of over the top reactions to this result, some already.

But that wasn't a bad performance.

Spurs are a better team than us, plain and simple. We tried to keep it tight and did fairly well. A moment of brilliance from Son spoilt that. It wasn't a whole lot wrong with the defending on that one. A great finish on his weaker foot, hard to stop.

We defended pretty well, showed plenty of application to keep going and closed down throughout, but we simply don't have the quality up top in a side without Vardy (and Mahrez). Simple as that.

I don't think that is Puel's fault. At least nto tactically on the day.

We made it way too easy for Spurs really but in essence, I agree that the performance was okay for the most part. It's not games like these that bother me so much about Puel, it's his approach to games like Fulham, Burnley, West Ham, etc... that is really problematic. Losing or drawing these such games in the manner we have been doing has an effect on the players. When they then have to play against much better sides such as tonight, there is no confidence left in the tank.

That performance highlights 2 important things for me.
1) How poor our recruitment continues to be. We seem obsessed with trying to get bargains from abroad, but they are either clearly unsuitable or take too long to adapt. Madison is one of the few successful transfers and shows the benefit of getting players who know the football and the culture and can fit straight in.

This has been a problem since Walsh left and whoever is responsible needs to be replaced if the club is going to move forward. I don't know how responsible Puel is for this, but clearly changes need making with our scouting and infrastructure.

2) Puel doesn't have a coherent plan B. While his selection options are severely limited, and I don't blame him for mixing things up, it has become clear that the players are not well prepared for the changes he makes, and some of the changes seem to be ignorant of players abilities.

While I have defended Puel and continue to praise him for the development of some of our young players, and I think he did a reasonable job stopping the rot last season, reflecting on this season I now believe the club should be actively looking at replacing him. I do not know who realistically would replace him, but at least we are comfortably in mid table and can afford to take time getting it right.

Pitiful game. One shot on target I think and that was a piss poor effort.

We are supposed to accept being completely outplayed by a decent side playing well within themselves. Apart from the first ten minutes, we did nothing to challenge them all game.

We know our place now, that's for sure. And it is definitely not being a competitive side with the top six. We're there to bend over and take whatever they want to give us.

Highlight for me was the Okazaki substitution and the absolute shambles with none of the players having the faintest idea what they were supposed to be doing. It was the only smile I managed all evening.

Couldn't even be bothered to boo. **** going on Boxing Day now. I'd rather spend the day with my family than see another feeble surrender.

that was inept and he has to go if fans think that was an okay performance then they are deluded those who think we are safe are just as deluded.

Puel has to go, we are going backwards at a rapid rate our form is relegation material and if we are not careful we will be in the mix after January!

the players looked demoralised and clueless that sits with one man and that is Puel, he has to go!!!!!

I think the annoying thing is you sense somebody could come in, install some basic sanity checks and we’d see a different side.

Just a settled 11 for a start.

Club is in no position at all to sack him and won’t do so until relegation looks real (stomach for it will be tested in early January after the upcoming run of dickings we are about to get).

mate he caused the rut last year

Limp

Totally limp and flaccid

They didn't even have to get out of first gear

Please talk me through what a great idea it was to 'rest' players against shit house Fulham, to save ourselves to produce that Limp, flaccid, impotent pile of shite.

Onwards and upwards FFS

I disagree. We were in real danger of relegation when he joined. I think he stabilised things, but is not capable of progressing any further.
agreed we went on a winning spree then he implemented what we have now, a good manager would have developed a hybrid version of what have and as for Iheanacho his selection is inexplicable.

we have been woeful and I have supported Puel for a long time but I genuinely feel he has lost the dressing room and the plot.

Agree with that, we got a really good bump from getting rid of Shakespeare, beating Everton, Spurs, Southampton and Newcastle in the following month or so. Had a great draw at home to Man U too. We played some really nice football in the lead up to Christmas, helped massively by Mahrez obviously. I don’t know why he wouldn’t take a hint from that, seeing how would could savage teams on the counter attack. It feels like he’s done everything he can to stifle that kind of football.
