Defender Ritchie De Laet has joined Championship side Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

The full-back made a total of 129 appearances for the Foxes since signing from Manchester United in the summer of 2012, scoring five goals – his most recent against new side Aston Villa last season.

De Laet was part of Leicester City’s Premier League and Championship-winning squads and memorably collected a medal for winning promotion while on loan with Middlesbrough on the same day that Leicester City lifted the top-flight trophy.

The 27-year-old has been a regular feature for the Foxes as they made their journey from the Championship to the top of the Premier League.

His pace and versatility in defence have seen him pick up plenty of experience across England’s top two tiers during his career and he will bring plenty to Roberto Di Matteo’s Villa side as they look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

The Belgian has played his part in some of the most memorable moments in Leicester City history and as a popular member of the squad, he leaves with the best wishes of everybody at the Club for his future career.

Good luck to him, shame he's gone to Villa!

Great pace, good getting forward. Positionally poor and dives into tackles too often when he should just stand off. His pace gets him out of a lot of tricky situations he puts himself into! But, as much as he frustrated me at times, he's been an important player for us for much of an historical period for the club so I wish him well.

He'll do well in the Championship, a little surprised he didn't find a lower Prem team to take him.

Aston Villa Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Ritchie De Laet.

The 27-year-old joins from Leicester City on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

De Laet helped the Foxes win the Premier League last season and also played a part in Middlesbrough’s successful promotion from the Championship.

Manager Roberto Di Matteo said: “I’m pleased to have brought Ritchie to the Club.

“He is another player who not only has Championship experience but has also played a part in helping a team win promotion back to the Premier League.”

Good luck Ritchie - ne'er a dull moment with you on the pitch, and the performance in the 5-3 against Man U the stuff of legend!

Good luck to RDL. Always did us proud. Was our best RWB and really only lost his place because of the change of philosophy under CR which wanted a better and more solid defence. He then went to Boro where he proved that he is top championship lower prem level and I was a little surprised that Boro didn't sign him permo. I hope that we sign another defender to challenge Simpson for his place as I haven't been overly impressed with Hernandez at RB and it seems CR doesn't think Amartey is an RB after all. It's perhaps the position with the least reliable depth in our squad.

Really felt for him last season when he came back down to lift the trophy he looked awkward, good solid defender IMO just got caught out by quicker players

"sportsdesk statto Jordan Blackwell points out, the sale of Ritchie De Laet takes City's net spend to -£1.5m."

Bloody Big Spending Leicester spending big again.

King Power a well oiled business machine, no wonder there is money still in the kitty for a couple of players. Nice work behind the scenes.
